Steps To Get A Good Place Of Primary Assignment (PPA) In NYSC

Getting deployed to a state of your choice in national youth service corps (NYSC) is a good thing to celebrate. The orientation camp may be the reason you prefer that state. If that is it, your next worry is your place of primary assignment (PPA). It is given to CM on passing out day in camp.

There is a department that assign corp members (CM) to various PPA. They consider so many factors before posting CM there. However, you can indirectly influence your posting to a good place. You can indirectly make your choice or they can do the choosing for you.

Choosing A PPA Before Camp

It is very possible to start to influence your PPA before going to camp. You can follow one or more of the guide.

Address

During registration, you will be asked to provide your home and permanent home address. NYSC post CM to PPA that is close to their home address. So if you intend to work in a particular area, fill in a home address of the area. If you do not live in that area, look for someone who does and use the person's address. Better still formulate one. But be mindful of the fact that they may post you to a PPA without plans for accommodation. That is why I will encourage you to use a place you live in except you got plans.

For example, a CM serving in Lagos State and living at Lekki can use ikeja address if there is a place to live at Ikeja. Such ones will be posted to Ikeja.

Request Letter

The easiest way to get a good PPA is through a request letter. It is simple. If you like a firm, you can apply to work for them for some time. If they like you, they may give you a request letter. The request letter must contain the letter head of the company, your full name, NYSC call up number and a space for state code. The state code will be given to you in camp and should be written on it. The request letter is taken to camp and given to deployment and relocation department.

Some state NYSC are very strict on this no private firm rule. So if the firm has not officially written to NYSC for posting of CM, they may not honour it. They will prefer to post you to a firm that have applied and close to your residents. But if there is no other firm, they may have no other choice than to accept. So choose a firm that works with NYSC.

Choosing A PPA During Camp

Very active camp CM get posted to good PPA. Funny enough, they are not more active than the rest of us. They only joined one group and remain in the group. When they are always in a group and the group inspector who is a camp official notice the zeal such CM put in the group, they will be nominated for special PPA. Most camp officials have one or two slots to help outstanding CM they know get good PPA. That is except the soldiers.

Camp Clinic

For pharmacist and other medical personnel, this is the best group to join. They take care of sick camp officials and CM. The camp chief pharmacist and assistant usually get an upper hand when posting is done. That is before considering others in the group.

Red Cross

So many emergency situations arise in camp. It was a normal thing for CM to faint. It will not be easy for camp officials to attend to such ones. That is why medical personnel like pharmacists can also join this group to save life. Their numbers are scattered all over the camp. They also enjoy getting good posting.

OBS

They are in charge of information dissemination, organising social activities in camp and sound equipment. They are in need of journalists, engineers, writers, media personnel, etc. Join and get one of the best PPA in the state.

Band Members

Highly respected group of CM. They provide parade beat, NYSC anthem beat and the national anthem beat. They are always given good PPA.

Religious Groups

There are three approve religious gathering in NYSC orientation camp. Many camp officials attend these gatherings. They are out there looking out for outstanding CM who are actively involved in these gatherings. Active CM in these group can also be posted to religious bodies who demand the services of CM.

Martial Arts

This group are taught how to defend themselves in case of trouble. In camp, they were called out to entertain a visiting guest. Their members also enjoy good posting.

Platoon Leader

Platoon Leader is chosen on the first day of camp. They are the first to resume and can be chosen on first active member bases or on nomination. If they are effective in their line of duty, the platoon inspector can influence such CM posting to good PPA.

Social Activities

Participating in sports and games can land you in a positive position for good PPA. But since there are so many activities and many participants, this is no guarantee of good PPA.
