Best States To Do National Youth Service Corps In Nigeria

What most prospective corps members (PCM) consider when choosing their preferred state is usually state allowance and security of the state. There are some that still consider closeness to home, basic amenities and others. To make a choice in this regard is not an easy task for PCM. This is because they may not have travelled to most states of the federation. They may not have all the information at their disposal to make an informed decision.

So this write-up is trying to present a list of some states that combine some of these major requirements by PCM. However, this does not put into consideration closeness to home as we all may be coming from different geographic location. Also, time and unforeseen circumstances can befall any state anytime and change everything for bad. For example, the security at Abuja is good. However, recent activity of some religious bodies is putting security of the capital into jeopardy.

The disadvantage of serving in Abuja far outweighs any other disadvantage. Home to the capital of Nigeria, you get one of the best treatment here as a serving corper. Security is top notch with few hitches here and there. It is located at the center of Nigeria making it close to everybody. Above all, most primary place of assignment (PPA) pay Corps members. There is also so many jobs you can do as side gig. This is because there are so many community pharmacy who are ready to pay. The only major disadvantage of serving in Abuja is the high cost of living which is common with may places with basic amenities. The basic amenities in Abuja is one of the best in the country and it covers almost every location in Abuja.

Rivers

Rivers have hold this spot for a long time now. It almost lost it during the time of militancy. It is one of the stronghold of the Niger Delta people. It is one of the best place to serve. It has one of the most popular city in Nigeria and boast of the most richest local government area in Nigeria and one in Africa. Rivers got basic amenities and job for those who are interested in side hustle during their service year. However, the high cost of living in Rivers is something that can put fear in one. And not every local government in Rivers provide the above good opportunities. The security in Rivers is mostly limited to few local government as the riverine communities may not provide that adequate security as well as job opportunities.

Cross Rivers

If you want to mention the most beautiful state in Nigeria, ask no further. It has won this position over and over again that it is no longer interesting to hear it. It has basic amenities in almost all the quarter of the state with low cost of living giving it a balance. It has a blend of unique culture, luxurious lifestyle and good foods to choose from. However, the number of pharmaceutical establishment is low hence low job prospects.

Ogun

Ogun made the list because it takes care of some of the basic needs of corpers. From having one of the best NYSC orientation camp to affordable lifestyle to good security, ogun have it all. To cap it all, ogun is home to many pharmaceutical companies owing to the states closeness to Lagos state.

Kano

Kano is one of the safest place in the North end of the country. To make matters interesting, it is beautiful with educated people scattered around the state. It houses most of the pharmaceutical industries in the North thereby providing jobs for PCM. As the biggest commercial hub city in the north, it provides basic amenities with an affordable lifestyle. Food is very cheap.

Lagos

Lagos State may not be the best for corpers but one of the best. Lagos have very few advantages. They have security with problem of pick pockets here and there. Basic amenities is not bad depending on the location but generally good. But it has most of the pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria making it very easy for PCM to get extra jobs with good salary. But the state is hard to get as it gets filled within hours after registration begins.

Anambra

Housing one of the biggest market in Nigeria known as the onitsha main market, it provides PCM so many opportunities. It has many pharmaceutical companies and wholesale pharmacy all around. Here, you are sure of getting basic amenities, good standard of living with an affordable lifestyle. The security situation is kind of good around the market areas but poor towards the interiors. The major problem around the market area is pick pockets here and there. To cap it all, the state monthly allowance is high with low cost of living.

Worst State For PCM

Some states are very bad especially in terms of security. Because of militant and terrorist, some states should be avoided. They are Yobe, Bauchi, Borno and Kaduna.
Some states can be considered good in some part of the state while the other part bad. Some states have riverine communities that make life of PCM posted there to be miserable. Examples include Delta, Bayelsa, River, etc.
