The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a programme set up by the Nigerian government to involve Nigerian graduates in nation building and the development of the country. Like sheep without shepherds in a foreign land, these corps members need a leader to guide and protect them in their new terrain. That is where the local government inspector (LGI) or local inspector (LI) with area liaison officer (ALO) and local government officer (LGO) work together with the corper's liaison officer (CLO) to assist them. Community Development Service (CDS) is one of the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC in which corps members contribute positively to the development of their host communities throughout the period of national service. Personal CDS project can be embarked upon on a proposal to NYSC through the local inspector. Approval must be sought before executing the project. There are different types of leave for corps members (CM) during the national youth service Corps (NYSC) programme. Eligibility varies and requires the approval of the state coordinator in all.
