One of the requirements during registration for National Youth Service Corps program is choosing the state you wish to do your service. Although your state of origin and the state your school is located is automatically removed. This leave you with the other states to choose.
According to NYSC rules, you can only choose four states. One state is from one of the four cardinal areas in Nigeria which is north, south, west and east.
When choosing a state, many PCM get confuse on which state to choose.they wonder what makes a state good. For pharmacy PCM, you have to consider the following.

You cannot choose your state of origin. Your best bet is to choose a state close to your state of origin. But for PCM who love adventure, this is an opportunity to go far away from home.

Security

NYSC promised not to post PCM to war prone zones, that does not include youth restive zone. You need to do an indepth research on the state you want to choose. A once peaceful and happy state today can become a war so e tomorrow. Stay updated with news about the security of the place. Find out the nature of crime common there and if you can cope.

Natural Disaster

Some states suffered some season in Nigeria. The north suffer a great deal from harmmatan while the south experience periodic flooding. Make some enquiry how bad the state is and how well you think you can cope.

Allowance

The federal government monthly allowance for corps member is minimum wage which is N19800 for now. In addition, some states do pay corps members who work in government establishment monthly or yearly stipends as compensation. The value depends on the state. You can consider the states with the highest monthly allowance. Also, some good commercial city host companies that also pay corps members some good amount of money.

Basic Amenities

Some states are so poor that the only city in the state is the state capital. And the possibility of getting posting to the state capital is very low. This leaves the PCM to the mercy of the environment. However, there are still some states that have major cities and towns scattered all around the state. This increases your possibility that you may get a town with basic amenities.

Job And Career Opportunities

Sme states have a lot of opportunities for corps members to benefit from. You can work extra hours in a separate firm after closing from your primary place of assignment (PPA). This is not the case with some states. If you even see any at all in those states, it may be located far away from your PPA. This makes it difficult to hustle. If you have the dreams to begin something, not every state can offer you such opportunities. You have to investigate the state if it will have what it takes to achieve your dreams. For example, a corps member who intend to farm should stay off Lagos state because there is no farmland. The same Lagos most pharmacists wants.
It is not all about availability of the companies. It is the availability of companies you can work or that need your service. Some states have sea port. They will not require the service of a pharmacists.
