Niger Delta University (N.D.U) is in Wilberforce island, bayelsa state of Nigeria. The school is funded by the state government established in 2000 by the then executive governor of the state, chief DSP Alamieyeseigha. With two main campus in yenagoa and the other at Amassoma, the school is one of the top rated in Nigeria.
The main campus which is located in amassoma is in a temporary site with ongoing work on the permanent site. It has ten academic faculties including pharmacy. Other campuses include gloryland, college of health sciences, and the temporary campus of the faculty of law. A new campus which is extension of the gloryland campus is being developed with standard faculty buildings inter alia.

Mode Of Admission

NDU has two modes of admission. They are ;
1. (a) Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (J.A.M.B) Unitary Tertiary Matriculation Examination (U.T.M.E).
(b) Basic programme
2. Direct entry

Jamb Utme

Applicants must have a five credit pass in English language, physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics in O' level at not more two sittings. Applicants must also sit for and score above 150 in that years Utme to be qualified to sit for post Utme. The subject combination include the use of English language, chemistry, physics and biology. Note: previous years Utme cut off was 180.
Fortunately, NDU is the only state funded school among the others without condition of catchment area. However, candidates must select NDU as first choice institution of study to be considered for admission.

Candidates that meet the above requirements can proceed to buy the NDU post Utme form for N4000. The breakdown of the fee is N2000 for the post Utme form while N2000 is for system charge. The form is submitted online with relevant documents and details filled in by the student. Upload passport photograph and fill in O' level result, Jamb registration number and score.
The printed application form is the requirement necessary to sit for NDU post utme. They use to use paper and pencil type post Utme but stoped for some time now due to government intervention on conduct of post Utme by universities. However, previous years post Utme is made up of use of English, physics, chemistry and biology. Each subject has 25 multiple choice questions to be answered within an hour thirty minutes. Calculators, phones, and other similar gadgets are not allowed in the screening center.
Previous years screening involve submitting relevant credentials online and wait for email or text message for resumption.
About 667 candidates applied to NDU pharmacy programme

Basic Programme

The only advantage is that candidates get to familiarise themselve with the school environment before gaining admission making the school stress easy. The school also claimed to give more preference to candidates who pass through this programme when giving admission to their year one students.
This programme is designed to prepare secondary school leavers to increased their capacity to write jamb Utme.
Candidates are required to make five credit pass in English language, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology in not more than two sittings. Awaiting results can also apply. They are also required to write jamb Utme.
The form goes for N15000. The form is processed online by students uploading and filling relevant documents and details respectively.
No entrance examination. Successful applicants are invited by text or using the university website. Lecture is on four Utme course. Candidates sit and write the utme and their admission is based on their performance in the examination. The programme run for one academic university year with two semesters. I don't know if they organise examination for their student or the admission is based solely on jamb and post Utme.
The school fees can be paid once or maximum of twice. The first scho must be a minimum of 60 per cent and second is 40 per cent. Note that student must have paid complete school fee before the final examination. The school fees will be updated in a later date.

Direct Entry

Applicants wishing to gain admission into 200 level through direct entry must fulfil the faculty first degree requirements such as five credit pass in English language, physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. This must be within one or two sittings.
Those with relevant first degree related to pharmacy from a recognised school by NDU must be with a degree of at least second class (honours) lower division.
NDU accepts A' level result from interim joint matriculation board certificate (I.J.M.B), joint universities preliminary examination board (J.U.P.E.B) certificate, advance level general certificate examination (G.C E), higher school certificate (H.S.C), etc.
The school have a Jupeb programme that takes successful candidates to year two. The programme form is N15000. The form is processed online also and successful candidates will be contacted by mail or text or via the school website. No information on entrance examination unlike the other schools running the same programme. Successful candidates have to pay N15000 as acceptance fee. After which, follow clearance procedure. Upload relevant document, fill relavant data's and wait for the school invite mail. Physical screening and verification is done after successful recieving of congratulatory mail. Documents required online include O' level result, signed statutory declaration and two signed attestation letter addressed to the registrar, birth certificate or declaration of age and local government of origin identification letter.
Physical verification require all the documents uploaded online including original admission letter, signed acceptance letter form, and original copy of pre degree application form.
 programme runs for two academic semester in one year. Lectures span throughout the week days and cover five subjects namely English language, physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. Two semester examination of which the first is organised by NDU and is similar to the second examination in terms of structure. The second examination is organised by Jupeb body and span across three weeks. Each day consist of two paper examination with thory and practical examination. Time allotted is between two hours thirty minutes to three hours. Although NDU claim they organised both examination internally, I know it is a typo error because their own programme cannot be different from the other school.
The school fees is not as expensive as other schools. It is just N150000 payable by install. The first must be more than 60 per cent while the second covers the other 40 per cent. The complete fees must be paid before the final examination or candidate will forfeit the admission.
The result is used to grade the candidate at the end of the programme.
Candidates who wish to study in NDU with relavant first degree or A' level must buy jamb direct entry form. NDU should be candidates institution of choice. The price for NDU direct entry form is N4000 as N2000 is for the form while N2000 is for system charge. Their is no entrance examination for now but they may soon start as there is a directive to organised examination for all direct entry students

Undergraduate Pharmacy

The acceptance fees for newly admitted students is N21000
There are different school fees for different categories of students.
Indigenous students: year one school fees is N150000. Year two goes for N100000. This school fees then goes for N50000 for the rest of the programme
None-indegene: their year one school fees is N200000. This comes down to N150000 in year two. However, for the rest of the programme, they pay N70000.

School Accomodation

There are six hostels accommodation for students. Three for males and the other three for females. They are named male or female hostels A, B and C. They all accommodates maximum of 200 students per session and 2 per room.
They enjoy 24 hours constant power supply with other benefits. More preference is given to fresh men and final year students during allocation. Bed space is N15000. However, recent development shows that the students are more than 200 per hostel.

Off Campus Accommodation

Single rooms between the range of N35000-N50000. Self contain goes for about N70000 and N140000. Finally, for those who want luxurious lifestyle which is very common in NDU, here you have your one bed room apartment for about N120000 to N16000. I must say NDU off campus is one of the cheapest in Nigeria I have seen since I started blogging.

For the big boys living off campus, there are other charges attached to this luxury such as utility bills ranging from N1000 to N2000.

Postgraduate Programme

NDU offers master of science in pharmacy in three field which are pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry, clinical pharmacy and pharmacognosy and herbal medicine. Admission requirements is a second class degree in related field from a recognised institution. The course duration is 18 months.
Application form is obtained online at the cost of N30000. The form is completed online and require uploading of relevant documents and filling of correct data's.
The school fees will be updated in subsequent time.
