If we should discuss the current history of the university of Maiduguri also known as Unimaid, we cannot fail to mention the unrest it has witnessed over the years from terrorist attacks. However, it has not hindered the operation of the university as the Vice-chancellor (V.C) has put modalities in place to check and reduce such attacks. The last attack was in June 2017.

Mode Of Admission

The mode of entry to Unimaid is not as complex and competitive as other universities in Nigeria. This can be attributed to the crisis rocking the school. This could be the reason why the pool of applicants yearly has not reduce. About 1841 who choose Unimaid as a first choice institution took pharmacy. 46 and 8 who took pharmacy in Unimaid choose the School as the second choice of study in the jamb.
There is three mode of admission which are:
1. Joint Admission And Matriculation Board (J.A.M.B) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (U.T.M.E)
2. Pre-degree/Remedial programme
3. Direct Entry

JAMB UTME

The requirement by Jamb to allow candidates sit for their examination remain five credits from O'Level including English language, physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics in not more than two sitting. Other requirements are that the candidate must score above 180 in  UTME before thinking of buying Unimaid post UTME form.
The post UTME form is sold online and candidates can make payment from anywhere in Nigeria. The form goes for N2500. Post UTME exercise in Unimaid has been replacing clearance due to the new law by Jamb. Admission was based on O'Level and Jamb UTME grades and result respectively.

Remedial/pre-degree

Candidates who wish to go through this route must, first of all, fulfil Jamb requirements. They need five O'LEVEL credits in English language, physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics in not more than two sitting. Applicants must also write and pass 180 in the UTME. Note that this programme is restricted to only candidates from;
1. Borno state
2. Adamawa state
3. Bauchi state
4. Gombe state
5. Taraba state
6. Gombe state
Interested candidates can only process this format unimaid micro-finance bank upon payment of N3000. The teller is converted to school receipt and taken to the Directorate of Remedial Studies for the application form. The application form is filled manually and submitted to the Directorate of Remedial Studies with passport photographs and duplicates of other necessary credentials. There seems to be no entrance examination.
The programme is divided into two semesters and each semester ends with an examination. The nature of the examination I do not know but I guess is going to be multiple choice and even based on JAMB computer-based test (C.B.T). Students receive lectures for some time before the examination.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to lay my hands on their school fees but will update that the sooner I get it.

Direct Entry

There are two kinds of students here. Some who already have a first degree and those with the A-Level result. For those with first degree, they must have already gotten their five credits in O'Level in English language, physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics, their first-degree transcript and must graduate with at least second class (honour) lower from a related course.
For A Level result applicants, they also need to fulfil the requirements of five O'Level credit in English language, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology in not more than two sitting. The cutoff mark varies year in year out depending on the grades of those that applied.
All direct Entry applicants must buy JAMB Direct Entry (D.E) and Unimaid DE form. Unimaid DE form is sold online for N2500 and there seems to be no entrance examination for now.
There is no sign that unimaid have any A-Level programme and they do not accept Joint University preliminary Examination Board certificate.
