Kaduna State University

Kaduna State University (KASU) is a young university. Founded in 2004 in Kaduna with two campuses at kafanchan and kaduna, it has grown over the years to accommodate seven faculties and over thirty nine departments.

One of the faculty is the pharmaceutical sciences which was established in 2012. Their first sets of graduates were inducted in January 2020 combining three sets. The faculty has six departments. They are;

1. Pharmacology and toxicology

2. Clinical pharmacy and pharmacy management

3. Pharmaceutical chemistry and medicinal chemistry

4.Pharmacognosy and drug development

5. Pharmaceutics

6. Pharmaceutical microbiology

Mode Of Entry

Kaduna State university accepts both direct entry (DE) and Unitary Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This includes basic and remedial studies.

UTME

The school accepts five O' level passes in five subjects of English language, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology in not more than two sitting. They make use of the catchment area so applicants must come from kaduna and environs. Also, they require a Joint Admission And Matriculation Board (JAMB) score of 240 and above. The JAMB subjects are the use of English language, chemistry, biology and physics.

Applicants with the above requirement and choose kaduna State university as choice of school will be invited for a screening interview. They don't write post UTME. Applicants will be required to submit their senior school certificate examination (SSCE) result and JAMB registration print out.

Admitted students will then proceed to register with the school by submitting other relevant documents.

Pre-degree

Called college of basic and remedial studies which run through a nine months period. The form is 5000 naira only and applicants must meet UTME requirements of having credit passes in five relevant subjects. This includes mathematics, English language, physics, chemistry and biology from SSCE. The applicants must enrol for that year's UTME. The UTME subjects are the use of English language, chemistry, biology and physics.

The programme has two sections ending with an examination. Both examination scores are used to grade students and eventually given admission.

Direct Entry

Kaduna State university accepts DE. They accept jupeb and ijmb and run ijmb programme. The form is 5000 naira only. That is the only information I was able to get about their ijmb programme. I am still on the lookout for their mode of admission, cutoff mark, examination, school fees, etc.

Admission

Kaduna State University is one of the few universities where students don't pay acceptance fees. And there is no post UTME examination. Just submit your documents. They use UTME and SSCE scores to grade students before admission. The cutoff mark for the grading is 85 per cent.

School Fees

For indigenous students, the school fees are between 20000-27000 naira only from year one to final year. Non indigenous students pay about 30000-37000 naira only.

School Hostel

There are about four female hostels, male hostel and medical hostel accommodating 120 students. The medical hostel also accommodates pharmacy students. All female hostels house four students per room. Kadabu rent is 58000 naira only. Hamdala and ASD cost 50000 and 45000 naira only. The male hostel is located at maiduguri road.

Off Campus Accommodation

The houses off camp are cheap. 180000 naira can get a two bedroom flat. Single rooms are far cheaper. An average apartment is about 50000 naira only.
