Igbinedion university, okada (IUO) is the first private university in Nigeria. It was established in the year 1999 in the town of Okada, the headquarters of Ovia North East local government area of Edo State. The university has seven colleges including the college of pharmacy.

The college of pharmacy in IUO graduated it's 6th set of pharmacy in 2017. They were awarded a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) after five years. The college was named after the former Director-general (DG) of national agency for food and drug administration and control (NAFDAC), Dr Dora Akunyili.

Mode Of Admission

There are many means of entry into pharmacy in IUO. The requirements are light when compared to government owned university.

Unitary Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)

It is required that all prospective candidates must possess five credit passes in English language, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology in not more than two sitting. Candidates using two results should combine from the same examination body. Accepted result is O level. Awaiting result can also apply but must present the result before September when the next admission will commence.
Prospective candidates must write joint admission and Matriculation board (JAMB) UTME and pass the cut off mark for that year. However just like many private universities, the cut off mark is not the same and always flexible. When other schools fix a higher cut off mark, private use the one set by JAMB which is always lower.
One criteria is that applicants must be less than 22 years old. Those above 22 can only receive special consideration based on certain conditions.
Applicants who meet the other requirements are to get the post UTME screening form online. The cost is about N10000 but not very sure. They accept both first and second choice. Their post UTME screening can be done at different locations. Candidates are at liberty to choose their preferred screening center. The screening consists of examination and verification of candidates credentials. Admission is into year one which they are referring to as pre degree.

Direct Entry

They accept first degree in relevant discipline as well as A level into year two. First degree must have at least 2nd class honours with utme requirements. They have a jupeb programme and accept ijmb.

Candidates must meet utme requirements as well as get a Jamb direct entry form. They are also expected to beat the cut off mark.
