List Of NYSC Allowance And How To Claim Them
The national youth service corps (NYSC) is a programme where youth can give back what they learn in school to the society. It is a compulsory selfless service organised by the federal government. To assist these youths, the federal government pay each and every corp member (CM) allowance. Besides the federal government allowance to CM, state government and some private firm also devote an allowance to CM working with them. There are different types of federal government allowance. Let us see them.

Monthly Allowance
Every CM is entitled to a monthly allowance. The first monthly allowance was paid at the orientation camp. CM receive 12 monthly allowance beginning from the one in orientation camp. Approval is subject to community development service (CDS) weekly attendance and monthly CDS meeting with biometric screening which is done at the beginning of the month. The money is paid into CM bank account at the end of that month or beginning of the next month. However, December allowance is paid before the 25th of the month.
The last monthly allowance is paid on the 11th month. It consists of the regular allowance and an extra N1400. The extra is a final transport allowance to go back home from service.
PPA Allowance
Every CM is entitled to federal government allowance. However, each CM is entitled to their own PPA allowance. Unfortunately, not every PPA pay CM. CM posted to federal government establishment may not get extra allowance because they have been captured in the general allowance. However, some federal government establishment head give CM token based on their own discretion.
Establishment owned by state government can also pay. The amount varies from one state to another. Unfortunately, some states don't pay.
Redeployment And Allowance
Relocation means changing your state of service and is approved. Those whose relocation has been approved for their new state go for documentation. The former state will pause their federal allowance for three months. They will pay the CM three months arrears after some time. The new state will start to pay the CM federal allowance after three months. Note that both states pay the CM their federal government allowance from Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Health Insurance Allowance
NYSC have placed all CM on health insurance. Any sick CM will get refund of every money spent on seeking medical care. However, there is an approve process for this. CM must write an application letter for a refund to the NYSC state coordinator through the NYSC ZI through the NYSC LI. The letter should be handwritten and must contain details of the disease, diagnosis, intervention and medical result. It should go with the title 'application for refund of medical bills.' Admission cases must be clearly stated and the name of the hospital on it including any vital details. The letter should go with any medical documents such as medical results, etc.
Approval is subject to some strict conditions. The hospital must be a government owned hospital such as federal medical center, central hospital, general hospital, army hospital, air Force hospital, etc. Private hospital is only recognized if the CM is referred to the private hospital from a government owned hospital which must be attached.
Unpaid Allowance
There are times some CM don't get their federal government allowance. It could be a general problem or just one person. When the government is aware, it is not necessary to contact NYSC. It is good to wait for two weeks before contacting the local government inspector (LI).

To resolve unload allowance, apply to the director general (DG) of NYSC through the NYSC state coordinator through the NYSC zonal inspector (ZI) through the NYSC LI. The application letter should be handwritten and titled 'Application For Unpaid Allowance.' Attach a screenshot of your monthly clearance dashboard and bank statement of account. For those who redeployed, attach relocation approval letter. For those who miss monthly biometric screening on legible reason, attach the approved application letter.
Note: all allowances are subject to change. Federal government allowance is as follows;
1. Transport allowance is 1800 naira
2. Bicycle allowance is 1400 naira
3. Monthly allowance is 19800 naira
When the federal government sign a new allowance into law, they start to pay the allowance that month. However, in cases the payment is delayed the arrears will accumulate which will be paid at a later date.
Those on extension of service will forfeit their allowance for the period they ascounded and get paid half the allowance for the extension period. Those who are remobilized after beginning the service will pay back all the allowances they have collected during their initial service.
