Does Antibiotics Such As Ampiclox Capsule Drain Blood Of User?

There is a general notion that antibiotics cause anemia or reduce blood cell in the body. This belief is especially so with ampiclox capsule. To prevent the effect on the blood, they either don't take the drug at all or reduce the dosage and or frequency and or dosage duration. Now, how true is this theory? Is going against medical prescription the solution? Let us take a general look at antibiotics and ampiclox as a case study.

Antibiotics And Blood Cell

Blood has a number of components. Each of these components play important roles in the body. They are red blood cells, white blood cells (neutrophiles, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils and basophils) and platelets.

Each of these components are required in certain amount to function well in the body. Certain health conditions or lifestyle can affect the amount in the body. It can either increase or decrease which have their own negative effects. We do everything humanly possible to keep the level at normal range.

Antibiotics are agents that either destroy bacterial or make them immobile. They target harmful bacteria in the body. Unfortunately, some also destroy good bacteria in the body.

Some of these antibiotics affect the amount of blood components in the body. For example, some antibiotics causes low white blood cell (WBC) count because they destroy WBC or damage the bone marrow. This leads to abnormal drop in neutrophils known as neutropenia. This effect is rare. Conditions like this causes some effect which require the drug to be stop on medical advice.

Ampiclox Capsule Effect On Blood Cell

Drug induced immune hemolytic anemia is a blood disorder that occurs when a medicine triggers the body's defence system to attack its own red blood cells (RBC). The drug induced the white blood cells to see the RBC as foreign matters.

Cephalosporins, levofloxacin, nitrofurantoin, penicillin and its derivatives of which ampiclox falls under have been implicated in this condition. But a look at their side effects showed that this condition rarely occur at normal medical doses.

For example, ampiclox has common side effects at normal dose to be nausea, vomiting, etc. These effects affect about 1/100 users. However, hemolytic anemia has been shown to affect about 1/10000 users after over 30 years of post market clinical use. And users who experience this are advised to stop immediately. This shows that ampiclox does not drain blood of users. However, if it happens user is advised to stop and seek medical advice.

The signs and symptoms of hemolytic anemia is same with anemia caused by other conditions. This includes dizziness, tired, weak, etc.
The bottom line is that ampiclox and antibiotics generally does not drain blood at medical doses except on very rare cases. And very few antibiotics can cause it.
