Treating Future Microorganism Infections With Microorganisms Called Probiotics

Microorganisms are organisms that are very small. Naked eyes cannot see them unless aided with a microscope.
This makes them microscopic organisms. Fungi, bacteria, virus, and bacteriophage (bacteria and virus together) are all examples of microorganisms. They are present in almost any environment on earth. They can be group into the good and the bad ones. The bad ones make us ill. However, you may be shocked to know that the good ones make us healthy.

The number of bacteria in our body far exceeds the number of cells in us. If this number is a surprise to you, consider this. The majority of microorganisms in our body are either harmless or beneficial. Probiotics are what they are called. On the other hand, the bad guys that cost us our good health are very few in number.

Over the years, there have been studies to know how they operate in our body. The body always fights against the bad microbes because they cause us ill health. However, in cases of a weakened immune system, the body may fall sick and will need the aid of an external help. That is medications come in. The reason for the weakened immune system is because the number of bad microbes has increased. This could be due to a favourable environment for them.

The good guys have good jobs they do for us. They are either helping in digestion or in the fight against bad microorganisms in the body. They are mostly found in the gut of humans. At optimum number, they are beneficial. However, this may not be the case when they are fortunate to proliferate which may end up in a disease condition. This confirms the claim that too much of everything is bad.
Medications produce by a scientist over time are either synthetic, natural or semisynthetic compounds. They act to treat disease by curbing the number of bad microorganisms in the body. It is very difficult to achieve total eradication of bad microorganisms from the body system.

Medications for treating bacteria are called antibiotics. They destroy the lives of microorganisms in the body. Most of them are produced from microorganisms like penicillin from the microorganism penicillin genus.

These medications are getting resistance day by day from the bacteria that were once susceptible to it. Another problem with antibiotics is that they, especially the broad spectrum antibiotics destroy both the good and the bad microorganisms. This is capable of causing an imbalance in the normal flora of the body. This is the leading reason while the scientist is looking at the alternative better option of treatment. The future of medicines may lie on a very new treatment option that may be surprising to the common man.

Imagine you visit your doctor for a medical diagnosis. After all your discussion, he looks at you and said, ‘take this drug. It is made up of microorganisms. Take one tablet in the morning and one in the evening.’ This will be shocking to you. However, it may impress you to know, this is may be the next option we are heading toward.

Vaccines are attenuated or killed microorganisms that are administered to us preventing illness. To prevent a particular disease, the organism causing it is attenuated and administered. This will help the body to develop immunity against that disease. Alternatively, on the other hand, probiotics are live microorganisms that are administered to treat diseases. What do you know about it?

What Are Probiotics?

Probiotics are microorganisms that are found in every part of the body. They have beneficial roles they play in our body. The most recognized are their ability to enhance absorption in the small intestine. They also maintain acidic PH level which is unsuitable for the bad guys and support the immune system. Below are some of their mechanism of actions.

Mechanism Of Action Of Probiotics

Production Of Pathogen Inhibitory Substances: These substances may be part of their toxins produced during active metabolism. It may end up being toxic to bad guys and not to the human host.

Inhibition Of Pathogen Attachment: Some bad guys may want to attach themselves to some cells in the host. If this happens, the disease may set in. Probiotics act as competitive inhibitors for such site. This prevents degeneration to illness.

Inhibition Of Microbial Toxins: Probiotics have been shown to use up the toxic toxins from bacteria that can make up fall ill.

There has been tremendous interest in probiotics in improving health. The mode of production has been simple fermentation methods. Yoghurt is one food that is high in probiotics. It is the hope of manufacturers that one day, they may be able to produce other dosage forms. Below are some ways in which probiotics can help us as some countries have started adopting it.

Uses Of Probiotics

Antibiotics And Probiotics: Since antibiotics destroy natural probiotics in the body with bacteria, it is a good health practice to replenish it back. To achieve optimum balance, it is better to increase the number of probiotics in the body before starting a course of antibiotics or take them after some hours of antibiotic therapy.

Autoimmune Disease: When there are no microorganisms to fight, the white blood cells in the body (body soldiers) may become over excited. This may lead to a situation whereby they attack any cell that is close by in the body. This will, in turn, cause some form of a disease that is dangerous. This can be avoided by providing them with some probiotics. This keeps them active and prevents further attacks on healthy cells.

General Disease: It is the belief of many scientists that a time will come when probiotics will be administered to patients. This is to avoid the use of antibiotics.

Dose

Dosing: The dosage has been a major problem when we talk of probiotics. A number of probiotics in the body must be known in order to give the right amount as a form of treatment. A lower quantity will not work as too much leads to disease on its own

A major problem with them is their short period of expiration. This may be improved on as science advance.

As of today, there are no probiotics approved by Federal Drug Agency (F.D.A). Although they are keeping the tag on its progress over the years. Minor side effects recorded so far are few and not life threatening. No toxicity reports. So far so good, report has it that for those who have been administered the drugs, it is either they achieve good health after taking it or the effectiveness was very little.
