Four Human Genotype And Marriage Compactability

Human blood is a red liquid. In it are invisible microscopic cells performing various functions in the body. The major cell in the blood is the red blood cell (R.B.C). RBC does various functions. One of its function is carrying oxygen around the body.
To carry oxygen around the body effectively, the hemoglobin is attach to the RBC. It is this hemoglobin that is responsible for the oxygen carrying duty of RBC. Hemoglobin is made up of gene and globin. The globin is an iron-protein complex.
The globin is made up off two chains which are alpha and beta chain. The alpha and beta chain have two chain each and they interact in certain ways to form a unique structure.
To join the heme part, protein attach to the globin chain to form a bridge or link. The type of protein involve is what differentiate human generate.
There are three protein involve in this joining. They are the glutamate, valine and lysine. Since two proteins must be link to complete the joining, the position each protein takes gives us the configuration of our genotype.
There are four genotype in human. This is against the three we have been told all along. Take for example, in secondary school we were taught that there are three fundamental units of which other derive units came about. The number rose to 5 and eventually seven in later parts of university days. Only God knows if the number will still increase for physics students who got to do masters in their field. This can also apply to genotype here. The last genotype is rare. You may be hearing it for the first time.

Every human have a pair of protein. Each protein is applied by one parent. When both parents supplies same protein, the person is homozygous but becomes heterozygous if different. Below are the list of genotype we have.

The genotype AA is considered the best genotype because of less side effect although it is believe they have a weaker immune system to malaria parasite. SS is prone to weakness of the body all the time because of less supply of oxygen to the different part of the body due to the RBC having a curve shape. The curvature of the RBC can be attributed to the valine which is a water hating protein. Since it hate water, it remove water from within causing the whole RBC to shrink. The whole RBC with its oxygen can no longer move to places that need the oxygen. CC is rare but it is also considered another form of SS. This is because the protein lysine is also water hating. However, the degree is not as much as that of SS. That is why the crisis is not as much as that of SS.
The heterozygous of these proteins are only carriers and live a healthy live. Because C is rare, many combination have not yet been seen like SC which is bad.

So SS, SC, CS and CC are considered sickle cell anaemia. AS, AC, SA and CA are called carriers of the trait. They are believe to be more resistant to malaria attack. AA is the only genotype that can marry from any other one if the children will not be sickle cell.

The only known cure to sickle cell anaemia is the bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately, it is very expensive with a lot of risk.
