Pharmacy Technician Sandwich Program

Some years back, graduates of pharmacy technicians started practising without any form of the certification examination. Just of recent, the Pharmacists Council Of Nigeria (P.C.N) introduced a certification examination for pharmacy technician graduates.

This was like a curtain between old pharmacy technicians and new ones. It was as if the old pharmacy technicians no longer have a place in Nigeria, as all establishment needed the certificate before granting any pharmacy technician related work. All these ended when PCN finally approved the National Pre-Certification Examination for those who graduated before the introduction Council supervise examination.

This program is like a sandwich program for all those who schooled between the years 2000 – 2015. The meeting by the governing body of PCN at their 39^th regular meeting gave birth to this program.

According to PCN the refresher program shall be undertaken at four approved centres namely;

1. Ogun state college of health technology, Ilaje-ijebu, Ogun state
2. Oyo state college of health technology, Elayale, Ibadan, Oyo state
3. Kwara state college of health technology, Offe, Kwara state
4. Lagos state college of health technology, Harvey road, Yaba, Lagos state

However, the program this year was held at just three centres and not the four. Who knows how next year will be. In addition, this program will not continue for a long time. Once it is perceived that the entire graduate from the year range has done the examination, they will stop it hence all pharmacy technicians that graduated those years should endeavour to do it now.

Course Duration

This program is to run for a period of one year. However, since it is a sandwich program, there will be a break.

Mode Of Application

• Applicants can apply at their preferred centres or any PCN office nationwide. Payment is done online.
• Applicants should submit all completed forms to the college of choice before the commencement of the program.
• Candidates must purchase training and pre-certification manual from their centres.
