Ferobin-plus Syrup Composition, Use, Side Effect, Dose
Ferobin-plus syrup is an advanced multivitamin formulation. It is designed to supplement iron needs for the body and made by fidson healthcare Plc, Nigeria.
Ferobin-plus syrup is a pleasantly flavored syrup which contains Ferric Ammonium Citrate as a source of iron for the treatment of Iron-deficiency anemia. It also contains Folic Acid and Cyanocobalamin (Vit B12) which are used in the treatment of megaloblastic anemia.

Ferobin-plus contains Thiamine (Vit. B₁), Riboflavin (Vit. B2), Pyridoxine (Vit. B6), and Nicotinamide which are essential components of the Vitamin B Complex group necessary for good health and vitality.

Manganese and Zinc are trace element components of Ferobin-plus.
Their daily requirement is essential since there appears to be no storage of them in the body.
Manganese is necessary for the proper functioning of the reproductive system. Zinc is essential for growth and vital for development of the immune system.
Clinical Pharmacology
Iron is an integral component of the body, being necessary for hemoglobin formation; hemoglobin is essential in oxygen transport and for the oxidative processes of living tissues.
Iron-deficiency results in defective erythropoiesis and anemia.
Iron-deficiency anemia responds to oral iron therapy.
Composition Of Ferobin-plus Syrup
Each 5ml. contains:
Ferric Ammonium Citrate BP. 200mg
(Equivalent to 43mg of Elemental Iron)
Folic Acid 0.5mg
Vitamin B₁ 2.0mg
Vitamin B₂ 1.0mg
Vitamin B6 2.0mg
Vitamin B12 5.0mcg
Nicotinamide 5.0mg
Zinc Gluconate 1.0mg
Manganese Gluconate 1.5mg
Indication And Use Of Ferobin-plus Syrup
Ferobin®-plus syrup is indicated for:
- Iron-deficiency anemia,
- Megaloblastic anemia,
- Anemia due to pregnancy,
- Anemia due to excessive or repeated hemorrhage
- Anemia associated with infections and malignant diseases.
Side Effects Of Ferobin-plus Syrup
Abdominal discomfort, nausea, heartburn and constipation or diarrhea.
Contra-indication
Anemia is associated with ineffective erythropoiesis, Primary (idiopathic) or secondary iron storage disease, Hypersensitivity to iron preparations.

Antidote In The Event Of Overdosage
Ingestion of large quantities of iron salts is toxic and fatal. Gastric lavage with 1%w/v sodium bicarbonate should be initiated to prevent further absorption of iron. Depending on the size of the patient 50-100ml of a 5%w/v solution of Desferrioxamine should then be instilled into the stomach.
In significant intoxication, where plasma concentrations of Iron exceed 500 ug/dl (90uM), parenteral Desferrioxamine is indicated to eliminate iron which has been absorbed.
Dosage And Administration Of Ferobin-plus Syrup
Adults: 1 teaspoonful (5ml) three times or four times daily. Dosage is adjusted gradually, as needed and as needed and as tolerated.
