Metronidazole gel should not be used at night if it coincides with any schedule other than sleep. For example, a woman going to night shift should not use metronidazole gel at night. This will disrupt the absorption process as her activity will delay absorption.

Metronidazole gel can be used anytime of the day when the woman is most likely to sleep or lie on the bed for a long period of time. In some journals, at least an hour. Some put it at 3 hours.
