The Cause Of Nosebleed Including Treatment And Prevention Method

Causes of nosebleed and management
Nosebleed
Blood is confined to vessels in the body. It is invincible within the body. Seeing blood in any part of our body such as urine, skin, stool or even nose calls for concern. It shows that there was a break in a blood vessel. When it does appear, it is right to seek a solution to stop it and prevent further occurrence.
The nose is for breathing in and out air. Nosebleeds (Epistaxis) are very common. But many people don't know and are easily frightened. They seek medical help without trying to help themselves or using home remedies. If only they knew.
The nose contains so many blood vessels. They are located close to the surface. They are quite fragile. Any little trauma causes it to break and bleed.

Types Of Nosebleed

There are two types of nosebleeds. They are classified based on their characteristics. Anterior is the nosebleed that happens at the front of the nose. It normally flows outward.
Posterior is another form of nosebleed but it flows inside the nose. The blood flows backward into the gastrointestinal tracts.
Both can flow backward or forward depending on the position of the person. The description of direction of flow is just to differentiate it based on how they behave when the person is standing. Posteriors are more serious than anterior.

Causes Of Nosebleed

This is the part most people are interested in. There are so many causes of nosebleeds. But there are two main causes. The first is dry air. This is a very common condition during the harmattan. The weather is hot and dry. Breathing in the dry air dry out the nose membranes. The nose suffer from friction when more dry air passes through it. This friction causes a break in the membranes. To make the break easy, any slight touch or squizz will cause the membranes to break.
Infection is another cause of nosebleeds. Cold flu is one of the infections that makes the membranes in the nose soft. This makes it vulnerable to breaking. Because cold flu occurs in cold climates, cold air is also implicated. Allergies like some chemicals can also trigger it.
Others are physical injuries like picking the nose, accidents, etc are common but not surprising to people because they could see what caused it.
Some medication can cause nose bleed too. For example, nasal decongestant, antihistamine, aspirin and other drugs that thin blood are part of it.
Some health conditions affect how blood clot. They increase bleeding when it does occur.

Treatment

Apply pressure to the nose by pressing the two nose together with two fingers. Just like applying pressure to gunshot wounds, this helps to prevent further blood flow. This should be done while standing or sitting and the head above the heart level. Breath through the mouth. This pressure should under 15 minutes should be able to stop the bleeding.
In case the above methods fail, a cold compress will do the trick.
Another method is the use of nasal spray decongestant for a short time. Nasal spray decongestant helps to close the small blood vessels.
Using cotton wool is a bad thing.

Preventive Lifestyle Changes

Avoid smoking. Smoking dry out the nasal passage. Eat more hot food that encourages heat to generate inside the nostril. It is better to sneeze through the mouth. This prevents air from flowing through the nose which may worsen the condition.

Identify the cause. For infection, treat the infection. If it is caused by a dry climate, use a humidifier. For personal use, apply saline spray or gel to the nose. Lubricating oil also helps.
Avoid picking the nose and the use of blood thinners like aspirin. Long term use of decongestant and antihistamine is bad.
The last option is the use of thrombin drugs. They help to form blood clot.
Very serious cases are rare. In such cases, doctors use some special methods such as applying heating instruments to construct the vessels.
