Various Social Competitions And Activities In NYSC Camp

The activities in the national youth service corps (NYSC) camp is a regimented one. It is filled will different activities. These activities are meant to engage and educate corp members about the tenets of serving. It can be boring sometimes. However, the whole programme is fun.

It is good to participate either as a member or a supporter. You can play for your platoon or support them as a fan. Most of the competition also require financial support.

Immediately after the swearing in ceremony, the platoon inspector will pick participants based on nomination and volunteering. Each sport activity will be announced and those interested in them will come out. The major role is the social director. They work with the platoon inspector and the platoon leader to ensure the platoon come out on top.

Various Activities For Social

Most of these activities begin by 9:00 AM each day. They are;

1. Cultural Dance and Drama: a couple of dancers and artists are selected to represent the platoon in this competition. At the end of the competition, the winner is announced by the panel of judges made up of NYSC orientation camp officials. From here, the best dancers and drummers are picked from dancing group. On the other hand, artists are graded on stage management and originality.

One way to stand out in drama is to diversify tribe. Each participant can create a personal custom. A notable requirement is that during performance on stage any of your props mustn't drop, which can earn you less mark.

When the microphone goes dead, voices must be audible. Cheering fans and supporters is noticed to affect the judge's decision. The storyline must balance with the theme. The theme is always selected based in line with the NYSC programme

2.Variety night: no camp can omit this. Here we have mr macho which is the most handsome guy on camp and miss NYSC which is the most beautiful girl on camp

3. Miss big, bold and beautiful recommend size is  18+ is a beauty competition between fat girls from each platoon

4. Miss petite is a beauty competition between small size girls

5. Intellectual Work also known as debate

6. Quiz competition

7. Cooking competition (what will be prepared isn't known until the time). Two representative per platoons. All equipment needed like pot and fry pans will be provided

8. Camp blast (I have no idea about this and I don't know what it is)

9. Camp idol is all about singing by a guy and a girl from each platoon

 10. Interplatoon drill competition (all about matching managed by socials and reception committee coordinated by men of the Nigeria army)

11. Carnival managed and coordinated by boys of Ma O'War where each platoon put on a tribe costume
12. Man O'WAR drills competition between just two platoon before the climbing trees and rope part

13. Burn fire and cooking competition. This usually bring all social activities to a close

Sports

1. Football competition by males

2. Volleyball game by females

3. 100m relay race by boys and girls

4. Table tennis competition by male and female

Notes

Those who are interested to participate in any of the above activities take form from the platoon inspector, fill and return. Submit forms early

For the pageantry shows if you did not submit your form as at deadline you are disqualified. Substitutions shouldn't exceed two days.

Note: nobody can attend all activities.  Some are going on simultaneously. My platoon tried anyway in all the programmes

There are some games that are not part of the official competition but can be played by anybody who is interested. Example of such is ludo, draft and cheese
