List Of NYSC Orientation Camp Officials

To make the three weeks National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp a success, there are different government staff assigned to handle different aspects of the programme. They are called camp officials.

Camp officials live inside the camp throughout the orientation programme. Male camp officials live in the male hostel with the male corp members. The female camp officials also live within the female hostel with female corp members. They are given rooms although with a different setting. Their rooms have most of the basic facilities.
It is estimated that there are about 300 camp officials that work day and night to make the orientation camp a success. They all have different grade and perform different functions. They are all very important to the success of the programme.

Camp Leaders

These are camp officials that are responsible for the success of their team. They make sure the other camp officials follow guidelines set out in the constitution.

State Coordinator

The highest personality in the camp. They are on salary grade level (GL) 16. They informal ascribe name is state code 02 behind the state governor who is ascribe the code 01. They are responsible for the overall management and organisation of the orientation camp programme. They address corp members on important topics. They also attend to corp members with issues other camp officials cannot handle.

Camp Director

Camp director coordinate the activities of all camp committees. In addition to that, they are in charge of the general well-being of corp members and camp officials. They address all camp issues. They are on GL 15.

Camp Commandant/Rear Command

This is the most senior military personnel in camp. They are never below the rank of captain. They are responsible for the overall paramilitary training. They instill discipline in corp members and assist the state coordinator in general maintenance of camp.
Camp commandant assign soldiers to the various platoons. Each camp is assigned about four soldiers. The soldiers carry out the platoon training and help discipline each platoon. Not to worry. They are very friendly.

Platoon Inspector

Each camp consists of ten platoons. Each platoon is headed by one a platoon Inspector. They are responsible for all the corp members in their platoon. They maintain a register of all corp members,ensure corp members attend all camp activities regularly and punctually by taking attendance register. They take charge of the welfare of corp members, supervise participation in routine preparation of meals, sanitation, security, sport and games, social, etc. They also take a roll call of corp members both in the morning and night to ensure corp members are present at all times. They also endorse all correspondence emanating from corp members in the platoon to higher authorities. Lastly, they are in charge of general coordinating if the platoon.

Responsible for the distribution of kit to corp members in the platoon.

Camp Committee

There are some committees in the camp that ensure that everything goes on smoothly and as planned. They are headed by different persons.

Security

Headed by the Nigerian police force. They are responsible for the security in camp. They mount the gate, checkpoint checking movement in and out of the camp and control of visitors.
Civil Defense assist the police in carrying out their duty.

Man O'War

They organise corp members are venue of activities. They blow whistle to wake corp members up in the morning. They also keep a register of corp members as well as inculcate leadership citizenship training activities in corp members. Man O'War are usually assigned to one platoon. Three Man O'War members are posted to one platoon. The number may be different at other camps depending on the size of the platoon.

Red Cross

They organise lectures for corp members on health and first aid. They are always on standby at all activities in case of emergency.
