Immediately after the induction ceremony for pharmacy graduates, the next stage is internship in an accredited center for twelve months period under a qualified perceptor. But there is a problem. The number of graduates yearly is far more than the available space. The problem is compounded more by the fact that the available centers are centralised in Lagos state. This makes graduates from other parts of the country to struggle before they can get placement.

This post will narrow down some tricks pharmacy inductees can use to get internship placement in no distant time especially when they are not considering salary or the sector.
Contact older colleagues. Visit websites known for advertising vacancies. Join groups in social medias including WhatsApp and others. Let the word out and let the world know. No harm in doing that. At the end, it may just pay off.
Because of the situation we found ourselves, getting a government own internship center is now with political connection or paying money to some people who got links with politicians. The money range from N50000 to N200000. Unfortunately, so many have been duped of their hard earned money.
Each application letter can be different to suit each center. Better study each center and what they do and thrimeline the letter to fit into their job description. The application letter is one of the first things human resource manager (H.R.M) look before any other thing. Make it simple but relevant. It is the only opportunity you get to seek yourself as a bright and intelligent individual. One more thing, make sure your home address is close by the center even it if involve borrowing someone else address around. That is because most HRM may not call you when they discover you live some distance away. Their fear is you may spend your salary in transport and may be coming late to work. It because they don't have accommodation for you. There are many blogs where you can get dozens of smaller application letter to use. There are some that are very alien in our country. Don't use those ones. Use the ones that are very basic and simple yet carry valuable data.
Your CV should be simple but focus. For those without any work experience, include others skill developed over time that may have one or two things to do with the center. As for those with work experience, include only relevant experience. Making the CV bulky with work experience in one unrelated field may be a turn off. Always add or delete entries when applying to different centers. What one center wants may not be what the other wants. This can be discern by observing the organisation and it's structure. Make sure your address in your application letter tally with the address in the CV.
One advice I will not fail to give is in your reference. Do not just insert just any reference. Look back into your school days. There must be that one lecturer who believe so much in you even with poor grades. Those ones can defend you anytime, anyday. Always use these ones as reference because if your future employer decides to contact them, they will give a positive story about you.
Sent the application letter and CV to the center in the formate they specified. Pdf, wd, PTT, etc are examples and through the required route.
For written interview, reply any invitation letter requiring you to indicate if you will be present or not. Simply make a short and brief acknowledgement if message and of your availability is all it takes. But if you will not be able to make it, do not hesitate to inform them. Majority do reschedule for another day.
Most oral interview is similar with questions you will be asked during and oral interview. However, written interview is a combination of both school work and practice questions. I attended one that was asking about stock taking and many terminologies that even until now, I am yet to come across as I practice.

Oral interview is more or less your past experience and what you can bring to the table. The more you attend interviews, the more confident you will be but one thing is sure, almost all oral interview in pharmacy sound thesame especially the retail pharmacy.
One trick in passing oral interview is composure. Never be scared that you will not be taken. In fact, go with the mindset you have been disqualified but just want to fulfil all righteousness. That boldness will make it easy to face the interviewer. With that boldness comes positive response that the interviewer wants to see. In fact some employers says your application is smarter than you. Better be because once you get the job, you can work hard to grow into who you want to be.

If you have the plan to do your internship in a private sector, then consider doing locum with or without pay. With pay may be small. You may not gain much knowledge from it but it will help to boost your curriculum vitae (C.V). Consider the sector you are doing your volunteering. Volunteering in a retail or community pharmacy when you wish to do your internship in an industry may not carry much weight.
