The University of Ibadan is the first university in Nigeria. It was established in 1948. College of the University of London is the previous name before 1962. The academic programmes that started the school include arts, science, and medicine. It is presently running with 13 faculties including pharmacy that came on board in 1980/81. The pioneer Vice-Chancellor (V.C) and dean are Prof. Olayide and Prof. D. T. Okpako respectively. It was part of basic medical sciences and college of medicine. Prof. Okpako was also the Head of Department (H.O.D) of pharmacology and therapeutics. The department was further split into two in 1981/82 and 4 in 1982/83. Accreditation came in 1983 after the visitation from pharmacists’ board of Nigeria (P.B.N) (presently pharmacists’ council of Nigeria, P.C.N) in 1981 and 1983. It became a faculty that same year during the tenure of prof. A. A. Olaniyi as the dean.

The Mode Of Entry

Unitary Tertiary Matriculation Examination (U.T.M.E)

candidates that were able to meet the school current cut off mark in Joint Admission and Matriculation Examination (J.A.M..B) will have to buy their post UTME form. The price has been around ₦2700. The questions usually cut across the four JAMB combination with 25 Multiple-choice questions each.
The number of JAMB aspirants is around 2700 yearly and the number admitted should be about 150. They accept two sitting but must be up to six credits and five for one sitting.

Direct Entry

UI has no approved Joint Unitary Preliminary Examination board (JUPEB) or Interim Joint Matriculation Board (I.J.M.B) programme. However, they accept direct entry applicants from other recognised programmes such as bachelor’s degree.
The direct entry form is₦2000 only.

Pre-degree

The pre-degree programme in UI lasted for a year and they stopped. The programme was similar to that of Delta State University, Delsu. The form is ₦8350. The school fees were ₦32900. However, seems the programme is not yet back.

Pharmacy Students

Screening starts immediately admission is given. The screening process also involve paying an acceptance fee (admission and orientation) of ₦7500.
School fees is about ₦34000.
Accommodation is included with the school fees. A year is about ₦29000. Final year school fees is higher a bit up due to an additional fee of graduation, which is ₦5000.

Postgraduate Programme

For foreign students without any proof of English language proficiency test will write the English proficiency test, they have to register for the test with ₦25000. When they are successful, they will have to buy the postgraduate form for ₦33750, ₦21000 for professional masters and ₦41550 for masters of philosophy/doctor of philosophy. The school fees are about ₦20900 for the first years and ₦115000 for subsequent years.

There are 10 halls of residence for undergraduate and 2 for postgraduate students.

Outside Accommodation

Accommodation outside is expensive when compared with the school accommodation programme. The cost range from ₦25000 – ₦35000 for single rooms and about ₦120000 for bed-sitter.

National Universities Commission (N.U.C) denied the school of pharmacy re-accreditation in 2017/2018 session. This made the school not to admit any student into the faculty that session. The present state is not clear if they have gotten it back. However, it still has Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (P.C.N) accreditation.

  2. If I should apply for pharmacy, do I have to choose a specific department, because I heard that there are like 5 departments under the faculty of pharmacy. And will I also be given admission the same year
