All About Pharmacy Lecture Under Pharmacy School In Nigerian University

Pharmacy lecture for pharmacy students
Pharmacy lecture
Pharmacy students will obviously face lectures from year one. Year one lectures are courses mainly by Faculty of Science (F.O.S). The FOS designs the methods adopted by these lecturers. The other year one course that is organised by the school such as General Study’s (G.S.T) lectures are somewhat similar. Since all year one normally experiences the same lecture design, I will not discuss it now.

Lectures in pharmacy schools last a period of three months. There is always a supposed one-week break for rest and another one for revision before the main examination.

The curriculum of pharmacy is wide. The curriculum must be finished in about Five to Six years. For this, the faculty have designed the curriculum and spread it over the years. This is supposed to ease the stress experienced by the students. Still, each course content is wide that majority of the course subjects is taught by more than one lecturer.

Lecture Schedule

At the beginning of the semester, the Head Of Department (H.O.D) of each department draws out a lecture schedule for all the lecturers in the department. A course subject most times is assigned to several lecturers. The number of lecturers assigned to one course depends on the course content. A very voluminous course will draw in more lecturers than another with a little course content will. However, there may not be any course with just a single lecturer that will take the course throughout the programme.

The lecturers assigned to one course is selected based on the discretion of the HOD and based on the schedule of some of the lecturers. A full-time lecturer may receive more teaching time than adjunct lecturers may.

On average, four lecturers teach a course but I have experienced a course with seven lecturers; yes, seven.

Each lecturer has an assigned amount of hour per course. This is sometimes translated to the number of questions that lecturer will set during an examination.

Lecture Timetable

Lecture timetable is organised by the lecture coordinator and released at the beginning of the semester. Each student is to write down or photocopy the lecture timetable. The lecturers come to the class on the time they are to teach. Sometimes, two lecturers from the same department may want to teach at the same time since the time table may not specify the time for each lecturer of the course. In other cases, when one is done, the other lecturer will continue even if it is in another timetable.

Pharmacy students are supposed to be seated before a lecturer comes in. They are to have their writing materials ready. As the lecture is ongoing, all phones must be on silent and there is not supposed to be any form of conversation with fellow students or over the phone. Some lecturers hate when students use digital devices to record there lectures. So, be careful doing that or simply ask the lecturer. When a lecturer is already in class, going in may provoke the lecturer. Some do not accept late coming. For those that do, make sure you are well dressed and be polite when sending greetings.

Lectures are as important as the examinations itself. Through lectures, students can predict where a lecturer may likely bring questions from. Some lecturers take the attendants of those that are in class and use it for continuous assessment. However, I sometimes do not consider all lectures as necessary especially when there are other academic activities.

Pharmacy lecturers are stressful. However, with the right motives and attitudes, it can be easy.
