Laboratory examinations are not much different from previous laboratory experiments. In all, there are three types of laboratory examinations in pharmacy, which will be discussed.
Examinations in pharmacy laboratory can be:
  1. Identification
  2. Theory questions
  3. Experimental practical

Types Of Laboratory Examinations

  • Identification

This method is rarely used in pharmacy laboratory. However, anatomy laboratory examination employs this method a lot. It is worth mentioning. It involves identifying instruments and equipment. The instruments and equipment to be identified are usually those that were used during the laboratory experiments done previously.

Students line up in a row on the day of the examination at the laboratory. The first students go in to identify the item on the table. This must be done in a particular time. The laboratory technician does the timing. There may be an additional question asking for the use or function of the identified object. Alternatively, the questions maybe when to use the objects identified. After ringing, the bell that signifies time up, the student move over to the next object while another student comes to the first object. This process continues until all the students complete their identification.

It should be noted that this method is usually supplemented with either of the other two methods.

  • Theory Questions

Most laboratory examinations employ this method as it offers an easy way of assessing students’ knowledge on the experiments carried out so far. It involves questions that stimulates the thinking of the students to explain when and why an experiment is necessary. That is completed with a full report just as the ones previously submitted. Other questions may include mechanism of actions most likely from one course from theory class.

  • Experimental Laboratory Practical

The last and most popular is the actual experiment with a full laboratory report. Some theory questions may be included. The experiment may be the same as the ones done in previous experiments during learning.
