Avrocid is an antacid with triple action. It adopted the nickname due to its triple action effect (Protective, Antacid, Deflatulent). It is manufactured by SKG-Pharma Limited for Avro Pharma Limited all in Nigeria.

What Is In Avrocid?

Avrocid Suspension

Each 5ml contains as the active ingredients:

Activated Methylpolysiloxane 125.0mg

Magnesium Hydroxide 100mg

Dried Aluminum Hydroxide Gel 468.1mg

Avrocid Tablet

Each tablet contains the active ingredients:

Activated Methylpolysiloxane 10mg

Magnesium Hydroxide 25mg

Dried Aluminum Hydroxide Gel 300mg

How Does Avrocid Work?

Avrocid is an antacid formulation fortified with a deflatulent (activated Methylpolysiloxane).

Activated methylpolysiloxane provides rapid relief from excess stomach gas by breaking gas bubbles in the stomach and causing them to coalesce so that they can be eliminated easily by belching.

Magnesium Hydroxide and Aluminum Hydroxide are antacids which neutralize hydrochloric acid in the stomach secretions thus preventing the acid from damaging the stomach lining. Aluminum Hydroxide also enhances the protection of the stomach lining from the irritant effect of gastric acid.

Aluminum hydroxide is slow-acting and tends to produce constipation while Magnesium Hydroxide has the reverse effect.

A combination of the two antacids brings about a faster and sustained antacid effect with reduced adverse gastrointestinal effects.

The actives in Avrocid suspension are micronized and presented as a uniform suspension to enhance their efficacy.

What Is Avrocid For?

Avrocid can be used for the following conditions:

• Peptic ulcer

• Dyspepsia

• Heart Burns including heartburn in pregnancy

• Gastrointestinal flatulence and discomfort due to excess.stomach gas

• Reflux oesophagitis and gastritis

What You Need To Know Before Using Avrocid

Do not use Avrocid if:

• You are allergic to any of the active ingredients in the product (an allergic reaction may include, rash, itching, swelling of face, lips or hands/feet or breathing difficulties).

• Your age is less than 6 years (unless on the advice of a doctor).

• Possible reactions between Avrocid and some medications may occur. If you are using other oral medications, take Avrocid 1 to 2 hours before or after the medication(s).

Check with your medical doctor before using Avrocid if:

• You are prone to constipation or have appendicitis

• You have kidney disease

• You have hypophosphatemia (low level of phosphate in the blood)

• You have any bone disease

How Should Avrocid Be Taken?

Your pharmacist or medical doctor can help if you are not sure.

Remember to shake the bottle before use.

Adults: 10ml 3-4 times daily, or 1-2 tablets (to be chewed) 4 times daily.

Children (6-12 years): 5ml 3 times daily, or half tablet (to be chewed) 3-4 times daily.

To be taken between meals and at bedtime not exceeding 90ml (10 tablets) in a 24-hour period.

Warning: do not exceed the stated dose.

Contact your medical doctor immediately if too much is taken.

Possible Side Effects Of Avrocid

The active ingredients in Avrocid are non-systemic, therefore side effects observed are mild and transient. These include a negligible degree of constipation, diarrhea and vomiting in some individuals' intolerant to Aluminum Hydroxide.

If any of these side effects become serious or you experience other unusual symptoms or concerns, stop using the product immediately and see your medical doctor as soon as possible.
