Can Xasten Affect Fertility

Xasten tablet is a drug containing dexamethasone. Dexamethasone is used to treat conditions such as arthritis, blood/hormone disorders, allergic reactions, skin diseases, eye problems, breathing problems, bowel disorders, cancer, and immune system disorders. It is also used as a test for an adrenal gland disorder (Cushing's syndrome).

Dexamethasone belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It decreases your immune system's response to various diseases to reduce symptoms such as swelling and allergic-type reactions.

Xasten Cause Infertility

There is no document on this. This drug has been used for a long time. However, it should be used with care in women looking for pregnancy and use under supervision. This is because xasten have been reported to cause abortion in animals.

How Xasten Cause Abortion

The only methods that have been studied and found to be effective for safe self-managed abortion, and recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), are misoprostol, alone or in combination with mifepristone (also known as abortion pills). Misoprostol alone is 80-85% effective for up to 12 weeks. Mifepristone plus misoprostol is 95-98% effective for 11 weeks.

However, these products are becoming expensive and hard to get in many countries around the world. This is made worst by not legalising abortion. Citizens of these countries turn to less expensive and easily available drugs. They turn to drugs that have been used for a long time. An example is the xasten tablet.

Despite the widespread use of xasten tablet in veterinary and human medicine, it is reported to cause some severe pregnancy related side effects like abortion in some animals. The low progesterone concentration could be the possible cause of abortion in dexamethasone treated sheep in this study. Progesterone inhibits prostaglandin synthesis and activity in pregnant subjects and consequently decreases myometrial contractility.

Unfortunately, there is no reported case or record where xasten containing dexamethasone is use for abortion. Xasten can be used in pregnancy with caution.

Xasten For Fertility

Fertility is the availability of a fertile egg from a woman and a fertile sperm from a man meeting in the right environment. The resultant fusion leads to what we call pregnancy. In such situations, both the man and the women are considered fertile.

When pregnancy is difficult, the man and woman are treated. Some drugs are given to both aim at improving the sperm, the egg and the environment and wait in God for possible fusion of sperm and egg. One of the approaches is the use of clomiphene.

Clomiphene citrate (Clomid) is a medication that helps with ovulation, but only about 80% of women respond. For the remaining 20%, they will either need to use a combination of medications or switch to a different drug altogether. Xasten tablet is one such option.

This is a medicine that makes Clomid more effective for ovulation. It acts on the adrenal glands to decrease their production of androgens, hormones that interfere with egg growth and development. When used together with Clomid, nearly 80-90% of women will ovulate when they have not responded to Clomid alone.
