Many pharmacists work for employers before venturing into other paths. One thing for sure is that you will resign from your job one day. Resigning is easy for full time pharmacist and locum pharmacist. However, it is a different ball game for the superintendent pharmacist.

Superintendent Pharmacist

A superintendent pharmacist is the pharmacist responsible for registration and management of a retail pharmacy. The registration involves signing agreements and submitting them along with various letters to the Pharmacists Council Of Nigeria (PCN). The premises is registered with the licence of the superintendent pharmacist for a year.

Resignation After License Expire

After a year, the superintendent pharmacist can decide to continue with the premises or register a new premises. In that case, a simple letter of resignation stating when the resignation will take effect will do. The rest is with the new premises owner. It does not require submitting a letter of resignation and letter of acceptance of resignation from the employer. This is because the terms of agreement tender before PCN indicated that the employment is for a year.

Resignation Before The Expiration Of License

A superintendent pharmacist can also resign from the job before the end of the year. Just send in your resignation letter and stating when you want to stop. In this case, your license stays but your working with the employer ends. However, PCN frowns against this.

Resignation And Withdrawal Of License

The whole stuff becomes a little bit more technical if the superintendent pharmacist wants to resign from the job and pull out the licence before the end of the year. Many superintendent pharmacists are in this delima. They want to quit but don't know how to go about it. It happens in most cases when they get a new job offer. What can be done?

In order to pull out your license before the end of the year, PCN must be involved. Write a letter of resignation to your employer. It should be formal and brief stating when and why. Most employers require at least a month's notice or forfeit a month's salary if the notice is short. The employer will have to discuss the repayment and what the superintendent pharmacist may refund to balance the rest of the year.

After reaching a reasonable agreement, the employer will issue a letter of acceptance of resignation. This must carry the company's letter head. With both letters duly signed and stamped by the employer, you are free to register a new premises for that same year.

At the point of registration of another premises for that year, PCN will demand for the letter of resignation and letter of acceptance of resignation. This include when you completed the year or not.
