Register Internship Job With Pharmacists Council Of Nigeria (PCN)

Registration for internship

After applying for internship, receiving a congratulatory message brings so much joy. That is the beginning of another new level entirely. It means you will have to leave family and friends to a new place. Before leaving, you need to ask very well the things you will need to bring along. Ask if you will get an accommodation. If yes, confirm the properties that you need to carry along. Make adequate plan for your arrival so that you don't get stranded. Resume duty on time. That will hasten the day your internships starts.

Application To Pharmacists Council Of Nigeria (P.C.N)

The pharmacists Council Of Nigeria (P.C.N) must be notified about your employment within the next 8 weeks of your resumption. A letter of introduction should be sent by your preceptor to the local branch of PCN. Your preceptor is your supervisor. You may need to take this yourself to PCN office. That is, two letter of introduction of which one is a duplicate copy each signed by your preceptor. The secretary at PCN office will stamp and sign on each to indicate it was received at the office. The duplicate copy also signed by the secretary should be returned to your preceptor.
Attach with the letter of introduction is PCN form F2 duly filled by you and your preceptor in triplicate. The form F2 is a blue form given to you on the day of induction. Each must also be signed by the secretary. They will take all three. Better to make one copy before and after signing by the secretary in case of eventuality. One will be sent to PCN Abuja office, the other stays in the branch office while the  last will be sent back to your preceptor where you have started your internship.

Changing Internship Center

It is not uncommon for interns to change internship center after starting at one center. There are two possibilities. You begin a new calendar at the new center or continue your old calendar from where you stop at the old center. To begin afresh, all you need to do is to find another internship center with vacancy and apply. If you application is approved, then you can proceed to the next stage. Apply for form F2 from PCN. Proceed as a new intern just as above. However, those who wish to continue from where they stopped at their former place of employment will have to follow another process.

• Inform your present employer of your desire to leave. Some wants at least a month notice.
• Get the job in the new place
• Get letter of approval to leave from your present employer and letter of approval from your new employer
• Write a letter of change of internship center to PCN with the two approval and consent letter from both employers
• Immediately you receive approval letter from PCN, proceed to your new center.
• Apply for another form F2 (triplicate)
• Submit letter of introduction together with the filled form F2 by your new preceptor stating when you start and when you are expected to end it

Locum Job During Internship

Not every persons can work  full day. However, many pharmacist especially the young ones do. I think they can do this because they are already expose to stress while in school. Coping is not an issue. They work in two places. First at their primary place of assignment with about 8 hours and another place to cover for the remaining hours of the day. This is only possible when the primary place of assignment work schedule is fairly constant. However, this is not possible when the internship job work schedule is not stable. You can speak with your preceptor of your plans to combine another job. Some do listen. However, never allow your locum job interfere with your internship job such as coming to work late or sleeping on duty because of the work schedule. Your internship job type can be different from your locum job type. It all depends on the type of experience you are looking for or doing it for the money. But is is good to get experience from another setting. Doing internship in community should be combined with locum in community and same with other areas of practice.
