Why You Urinates Frequently

Many people urinate about seven times a day. That is no matter the amount of water they drink or take in any form. However, a group of persons experience frequent urination. More frequent than that. It calls for concern. Health experts believe that anything more than seven times under 24 hours is bad.

Frequent urination is passing out urine frequently within a short time. Passing more than 3 liter of water is considered urinary frequency. It is different from urinary incontinence which is leaking urine. And it gets worse with increasing age. But why is this condition and what can be done?

When we eat food, some of the food is converted to energy in the body available to do work. This means that solid waste will be small. But when we drink or eat food with water, it is absorbed and released unchanged by the body. It can be in the form of sweat or urine.

The more water you drink, the more water you will pass out. Depending on the situation of things, it can be sweat or urine. During the dry season, little activity generates sweat. This leads to less water available for urination. But in cold weather or in an air condition room, less sweat leads to frequent urination. This is so because the quantity of water lost must be equivalent to water taken.

When two people take the same quantity of water at the same time under same condition, it has been observed that both may pass out urine at different times and frequency. If it is assumed that both persons did not sweat, it got to do with their bladder activity.

Some people say they have a small bladder that is why it gets full on time. Internal organs in the body have similar sizes. But frequent urination resulting from a full bladder is as a result of an overactive bladder. An overactive bladder is a condition resulting from the sudden, involuntary contraction of the muscle in the wall of the bladder.

With a situation like this, the bladder may get the same quantity of urine like others, but the bladder empties it faster than others. The end result is a small quantity of urine. So if two people consume the same quantity of water at the same time under the same condition, the first person that goes to urinate may have a very small quantity of urine. The later person may have more. But under the same time frame, it will urinate an equal amount of water.

Overactive bladder can lead to poor lifestyle. For example, frequent urination at work can reduce work flow and disrupt many activities. And waking up at night frequently can disrupt sleep patterns and cause more problems like high blood pressure.

Ways To Reduce Urinary Frequency

There is no known cause of overactive bladder. So many conditions have been suspected. However, the solution cut across so many things.

The first thing is to reduce the quantity of water consumed. Don't get me wrong. Water is good and drinking a lot of water is healthy. But avoid drinking too much water when you are busy. For example, drinking water when on a journey will cause frequent urination thereby disrupting the journey. If others are in the same vehicle, it can be embarrassing. Such a situation can cause low self esteem.

Another situation is waking up at night. Frequent waking up in the middle of the night to urinate can adversely affect sleep quality.

Another thing to do is to avoid drinking or eating anything that can cause diuresis. This includes caffeine and carbonated beverages. Diuretic medication should be used only in the day as it is better to urinate frequently during the day than in the night. You can easily excuse yourself in the day but frequent waking up at night can affect blood pressure.

Reduce activity also is a contributing factor to frequent urination. Exercise helps to burn out excess water in the form of sweat. Less activities will lead to increased urination.
