But the issue we shall be discussing today is the second part of the judgement which specifically ordered the national agency food and drug administration and control (N.A.F.D.A.C) to order the Nigeria bottling company (N.B.A) to inscribe a warning label on all Fanta and sprite bottles that consuming the contents with vitamin C is unhealthy within 90 days from the day if the verdict. I guess I just reminded you now. But up until now, we are yet to see any of such warning on any of the aforementioned products. What happened?
NBA have to put up a defence against the verdict. They cited various regulations and how they abide by local and international regulations. This push the ball into the ministry of health court. The ministry also defended their actions and inactions and claim the value they set for bottling companies was in line with international best practices. They also said the production here cannot be same with that if UK because so many factors need be consider like environmental temperature. If the man had inform the ministry of his desire to export the locally made drinks, they would have pre inform him the standard in UK, they concluded.  The ministry of health is yet to make any research public on account of the findings of the united kingdom. Fortunately, q research carried out by the Benson Idahosa University, Okda did give us a hint as to the risk with these products produced in Nigeria. According to the vice chancellor, prof Ernest Izavbigie, the drinks were subjected to various temperature range. The increase in benzene production from 20°C-60°C is 3 fold (300%) without vitamin C added but 10 fold (100%) in the presence of vitamin C under 24 hours. This was done some few months after the court case. Unfortunately, the research as declared by the VC did not give an insight into the quantity obtain to help predict if the value was above the maximum permissible limit. But we all know that many of the storage houses in this country have high temperature. This research  need to be made public and easily available to save lives or a different body key into this. I hope the full research will be release soon because so many questions still need to be answered.
