How To Write A Project Proposal For Pharmacy students In Nigeria

Once a project topic has been approved, the next steps in some cases is to write a project proposal. This is not always the case. It all depends on if your supervisor wants one. The truth is that proposals for undergraduate school projects is a little bit different from when one wants to write a proposal for other projects.

A proposal is a written document intended to convince the supervisor that you understand the level of research involves in your chosen topic. It details the level of information you already have and how you intend to carry out the research.

Elements Of A Good Project Proposal
  • Reasons For The Topic

Explain the reason behind the choice of topic. The value the result will have for the department. The reason must flow with the general objective of the department/faculty.

  • Review Of Related Literature

This should contain an introduction. Related works of literature should be brief. Those literature should be able to give answers to certain questions relating to the topic. Where those literature fails, that is where your topic comes in to provide its own solution. Give a simple explanation how your work is different and how it will provide certain answers.

  • Sources And Methods

The supervisor should be aware of your compatibility to work in the field when you were able to provide the source of your materials and the materials you already have available. Background of each source will be of high value.

Project Proposal Format

A typical project proposal for an undergraduate degree should not be more than a page when the font used is times new roman and size is 12 – 14. There may not be any need for a double spacing. The following should be clearly indicated in your project proposal;

Title

 It should not be the title of your project work but should form the basis of it. Explain the content of the message by indicating that it is a proposal.

Summary

Summarize the project in some few pages. This part is more or less like the abstract in the main project work. Project questions while hinting on the answers. E.g. the reason for the project, how you intend to carry it out, where will you be doing it, and for how long.

Background

The project is met to solve a problem or need in the world. Explain why it is a problem and the reason it needs a solution. Summarize the history being the project work. The background will contain a lot. If you are to interview, specify the nature of people to interview and why the choice. Include the method adopted as well as the questions you intend to use. Always use action words.
Formulate your hypothesis and research question. Your literature review should be short and simple.

Reference

If you cite any work in the proposal, it is proper to site it in the reference section.

Simplified Format

This is a guide for a simplified proposal that those not have sub headings like the above format. Even though there is no sub heading, the format is similar.

  • Project methodology
  • Conclusion

During the writing, there will be some writing errors probably due to the fact that different lecturers may require somewhat different approach even though the format is same. Expect corrections from your supervisor.

Lastly, each supervisor may have their individual requirements. Some may ask you to send the work through your email to their email. This is practically cheaper as the cost of buying data is far cheaper than that of printing. In such a case, the corrected work is sent via the same channel. For this, always check your e-mail, as most supervisors will not bother to call when the corrected version has been sent.

Tips: Visit the library and the internet on examples of already written proposals. In some cases, simply lift the topic and replace with yours changing some few sentences can save you a whole week of battle. Have seen someone who successfully did that and the supervisor started praising the work like ugh.
