Reasons Students prefer Project In Clinical Pharmacy And Pharmacy Administration
PCA is the only department where research is carried out with a survey. Survey is preferred due to the following reasons;- It is cheap
- It is easy
- It saves time
- High possibility of finding a similar research online
- The survey can easily be manipulated by the student
We will understand the above reason before the end of this post.
The survey is an activity that targets to collect information in an organised and methodical manner about characteristics of interest form some or all units of a population using well-defined concept, methods, procedures and compiles such information into a useful summary. Long definition huh.
It is used to evaluate quantitative and qualitative information. Students can achieve good project work if they know how to use these methods.
First Process in Project Of PCA
The first thing to do is to generate the survey method that suits the topic or the research objectives. To do this, it is best to consider the method others have used to gather pieces of information for research similar to your topics. There are so many already made research methods on the net. There are lots of research of PCA online that the possibility of finding something similar is very high. The reason is that the research survey of the people of Borno State will be different from that of Delta state using same survey questions. Design it and submit it to your supervisor.Read Also: Project/Research Work In Pharmacy School Guidelines In Nigeria
The survey method must put several factors into consideration such as the age of the respondents, literacy levels, where they will be found, etc. This will then enable the student to streamline the survey material to the best option for the target groups. Survey materials include printed and online questionnaires, telephone calls, emails, and in-person interview.
All surveys consist of two or more parts. The first part is made up of the respondents’ demography. However, very sensitive demography should not be included where it is not necessary.
The other parts are made up of statements or questions that require answers. The answers can be split between two choices of yes/no or more answers such as neutral, I don’t know, etc. the questionnaire is made up of an open-ended question and closed-ended question. There are advantages and disadvantages of both methods. Questions should also be made up of specific values such as ‘do you take your medicines weekly, monthly, yearly. Avoid questions such as how often do you take your medicines.
However, not all survey use questionnaires. Sometimes, the student may have to go to the hospital with permission from those in charge collect data relating to the topic before proceeding to the next stage.
Surveys can include patients data, pharmacist thought on situations, doctors choice of medications etc.
Second Process in Project Of PCA
Once the supervisor approves the questionnaire, it is time to distribute it to the target audience. From the time of project proposal to this period could take less than a month. The cost of travel to the target population can put a hole in the pocket of the student. In most cases the all the expected audience may not be at the location or the number of persons may not be there.Take for example this project work, ‘Medication Adherence Among Hypertensive Patients In Delta State’ will cost a student in Lagos state some amount of money to travel down from Lagos state to Delta just to carry out the research. In addition, it is possible for the student to find a project on this same topic but among Lagos state hypertensive patients.
To achieve a better result, the best method of administering a questionnaire is to do it yourself, waiting for the questionnaire to fill. Be there to answer their unclear questions. Other methods have their disadvantages.
Third Process in Project Of PCA
Once the questionnaires have been completed, it is time to do the analysis. If you know how to do analysis, it will take less than a day to do. Just use the best analytical tool you can use. So many prefer the complex SPSS. I use insta. In other news, pay up someone. The price varies from place to place. The analysis simply involves converting those written questions and answers into a figure that is easy to understand. They indicate the variables and significant of the survey. This is the result of your survey. At this stage, the project is halfway done. Is it not short?
Fourth Process in Project Of PCA
This is when writing the project work starts. PCA project writes up is somewhat different from the others in the department. After writing, the project is submitted to the supervisor. If the supervisor approves the final work, it is time to print the corrected version into two. They are bound using soft bind. One of the soft binds is submitted to the department for onward transfer to the external supervisor wherever s/he is. The other soft copy is meant for the student to read in preparation for both external defense. In cases of internal defense, the student may be required to print a third copy for the panels to use.Fifth Process in Project Of PCA
The external supervisor read and correct the copy with s/he on the day of defense. Afterwards, the external supervisor's corrected copy is given to the student who will then go back to affect the corrections before finally printing. Four copies are supposed to be printed which may be different from school to school. These final copies will be bounded using a hardback material with a colour that is unique to that department and submitted together with the correcter copy by the external supervisor. This is done to show that the student did actually affect the correction of the external supervisor before submission.Read Also: Clinical Pharmacy And Pharmacy Administration Laboratory For Pharmacy Students
Research In PCA
It is not all the time that students do survey in project. A rare occurrence is when the student is meant to research on a recent trend in the world of pharmacy. In such a case, all the student has to do is to get materials on the said topic, review them and give a sound verdict on what he found out based on previous articles. For example, when student is to find out about recent happenings in the battle for anti retro viral agents, he is to investigate what scientists working on it are doing and can not use a survey method
How simple and short. This is not obtainable in the other pharmacy departments except when a survey is involve as we will see in the future of this blog.Another post in this blog will outline how to write a PCA project work.
