Early puberty
Puberty some years ago was a thing for those in their late teen. However, the age for attaining puberty has dropped tremendously over the ages affecting every country including  Nigeria. The age young boys and girls show sign of puberty is so alarming that parents are left in the dark.
Apart from the fact that attaining puberty is coming at an early stage in life, another major problem is that the gap between the development of early sex character and menstruation for girls and sperm production for boys which used to be a year is now about 3 months.

If it continues like this, it may end up very bad for the future. What can parents do?

A lot can be done to reverse this trend. It will be beneficial to both parents and future children. A careful study of the children today and parents sex development in the past will give an insight into what is happening now and how to reverse this trend.

Some studies have shown that even with the growing trend affecting all communities and culture, the situation is more rampant in urban communities than in the villages. This can give a clue to what is happening.

Factors Involve In Early Puberty

The factors are much. It ranges from life style, environmental changes, disease and social life for children and pregnant women. From the above, one can see the reason why it is rampant in urban communities than rural villages. Urban dwellers have shifted their way of life from what was obtainable some years back to a more sedentary life style. This is unlike the case in the rural setting whereby they still live and practice some old life style. These factors when putting them together causes;
  1. Increased obesity: Obesity has been linked to early puberty.
  2. Increased Food Consumption: Which is rich in calorie from meat (protein). Some animal meat contains chemicals from the feeds use for them. These chemicals may contain sex hormones which stimulate early puberty.
  3. Stress: Stress from work or emotional imbalance has contributed to this growing trend.
  4. Chemical: Some known and common chemicals from modern foods or cosmetics such as fluoride are guilty of this.
  5. Lack Of Exercise: This include activities such as treking to school which is supposed to curb obesity and other benefits are being shifted to the corner.
  6. Exposure To Nudity: This is suspected by some groups of persons to be partially responsible and is rampant in urban setting.
From the above, we can see that children in urban communities;
  1. Eat more junk foods than their rural children counterpart
  2. Use public or private transport to school
  3. Have more access to nudity
  4. Always unhappy due to their unsocial life style
  5. Exposed to chemicals from cosmetics such as fluoride from tooth paste
Which therefore exposed them to the risk of early puberty.

Consequences Of These Factors On Children

  1. Breast cancer due to early exposure to certain hormones
  2. Height slows after puberty, which is bad since they are still young when puberty started

Solution To The Development Of Early Puberty

  1. Eat healthy such as vegetable and give breast milk to children. Many adverts encourage parents to feed their babies very well for good growths. However, here is the thing. Feed the child according to the baby’s level of activity. A child that treks to school and back should eat more than the one that takes public transport. This is the theory of balanced diet and not some calculated number of food per day.
  2. Minimized dairy products as they may contain chemicals from their feeds which may be bad for children
  3. Prevent exposure to nudity

Physical Causes Of Early Puberty

These other causes cannot be solved form life style modification. They are;
  1. Tumours and other growths, which are often benign
  2. Brain injury from surgery or blow to the head that affects hormones in the body
  3. Inflammation of the brain from infection.

Since there are side effects to early puberty, all hands must be on deck to stop it. However, the will power is not there yet since the effects are not that pronounced.
