The Possible Effects Of Swallowing Balls Of Eba With Drug (Pills) Inside
A Ball Of Eba, With Drug Pill Inside |
A drug can be said to be a substance that causes a psychological change in the body.
This can be achieved by either inhalation, injection, on the skin or through oral. On the other hand, medicines are drugs used in the prevention, treatment, and/or diagnosis of a disease. It is also used to promote the well-being of a person. This happens in a particular dosage form for a particular product, which is given to animals and humans.
To be effective, the medication must be used in accordance with the rules of the manufacturer. The rules are there to protect the drug from either losing potency or getting lethal during use and storage. They were set up after controlled clinical trials, which give results close to ideal life situations.
Most of the rules are found in the casing or in an enclosed leaflet attached to some drugs. One of the most common rules found and specified is how and when to take a drug. Well, in this article, we will concentrate on how to take the drug.
When a drug specifies how it should be taken, it is the duty of the pharmacist to explain to a patient the pros and cons of doing that. A patient can ask to know the reason. Most drugs are usually prescribed with either 'takes an hour before a meal or two hours after meal' and in other cases 'take during meal'. Let us explain each sentence properly.
To take a drug an hour before or two hours after meals means the drug works best on an empty stomach when digestion have taken place. But taking drugs during or immediately after meals means that such drugs work best when there is food in the stomach. This could be because some drugs can irritate the lining of the stomach or intestine.
Now, for those who like to take their drugs inside a ball of eba just to mask the odour and taste, you may just be doing more harm than good. I know so many folks are guilty of that. Here is why.
Some foods can make a drug more or less effective. Drugs taken on an empty stomach tends to have all the digestive enzymes to themselves. This makes them absorb completely and faster. This is very important for drugs that do not affect the lining of the digestive tract. In addition, the concentration in the blood does not produce mark adverse physiological effect. Such drugs will normally have an instant rise in peak level. E.g., Nitrates in angina and painkillers like analgesics. Taking such medications with food, like inside a ball or lump of eba will definitely alter their absorption.
Since food delays the rate of movement of materials into the small intestine reducing the rate of drug absorption. This will, in turn, increase the time acids in the stomach will act on the drug. If the acid reduces the efficacy of the drug, it may become useless at the tail end.
Acids do different things to a drug that stays in the stomach for a long time. One, if the acid in the stomach makes the drug more soluble, it increases the concentration in the body, which may not be good. If it breaks it down, the drug may lose most or all of its potency.
For drugs that can be taken with a meal, there is still need for precaution to be thrown into the air. Some drugs are meant to be placed under the tongue and allowed to dissolve. Most of those drugs are meant to treat throat infection, as swallowing it will send it to the stomach thereby bypassing the location where it is needed. For those with other functions, a drug that gets dissolve before hitting the stomach will quickly absorb fast than a tablet taken the whole. This will enable the drug bypass the stomach acid to a reasonable degree.
Some people are also guilty of using the eba when it is still very hot. Note that such actions are capable of destroying the film or coating surrounding the drug. In such cases, the drug may be rendered useless.
Some drugs that are to be taken with food like paracetamol, covering it in eba may increase the time it will dissolve in the stomach. In such a case, the onset of action will increase considerably.
Lastly, drugs that are enteric coated or slow release tablets must not be shielded away from the stomach as they are designed to float in the liquids of the stomach. Using ball of eba will only hide the drug from the stomach and send it to the small intestine where it will be rendered useless.
To take your drugs, always check with your local pharmacist. Always read the enclosed leaflet attached to confirm how to take your medicine. It is recommended that all medicines be taken with cold water that was previously boiled. As much as possible, avoid other forms of drinks as they may have side effects which most manufacturers did not obviously do research on to know if there will be interaction.
