Procold is a medicine manufactured by Orange Kalbe limited for orange drugs limited all in Nigeria. It is a cough medicine with an antipyretic and mild analgesic activity.

Composition Of Procold
Each tablet contains:
Paracetamol....500 mg
Phenylephrine HCI....10 mg
Chlorpheniramine maleate....2 mg
Indications Of Procold
Procold is a cold preparation to alleviate and relieve cold and catarrh symptoms, such as sneezing, nasal congestion, headache/dizziness and fever.
Dosage Of Procold
Adults: 1 tablet, 3 times daily
Children 6-12 years: 1/2 tablet, 3 times daily
Contraindications
- Patients with cardiovascular disturbance (including hypertension), diabetes and impaired liver function
- Patients who are hypersensitive to this drug
- Lactation women

Side Effects Of Procold
- Drowsiness, gastrointestinal disturbance, psychomotor disturbance, tachycardia, arrhythmia, dry mouth and urine retention
- High dose and prolonged use can cause liver damage
- Insomnia, anxiety, excitation, tremor, ventricular arrhythmia and palpitation
Warning And Precautions
- It should not be given to patients who have shown sensitivity to other sympathomimetic agents (e.g., Ephedrine, Phenylpropanolamine, Pseudoephedrine), severe hypertension and patients who are related with antidepressant drugs type Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAOI)
- Do not exceed the recommended dose
- It should be used with caution in patients with hypertension or have potential of hypertension or stroke, such as overweight and elderly patients
- Patients should immediately contact a physician or hospital if symptoms of influenza are not reduced within 3 days of treatment
- Discontinue the treatment if sleep disturbance, tachycardia or headache occurs
- Cautious use in patients with liver and renal impaired, glaucoma, prostate enlargement, hyperthyroidism, cardiovascular disturbance, diabetes mellitus and urine retention
- It is not recommended for children under 6 years, pregnant women and nursing mothers unless directed by a physician

- It is not recommended to drive a car or operate machinery after taking this drug
- Cautious use in patients who are related with central nervous system depressant drugs
- The use in patients who consume alcohol can increase the risk of liver function damage
Drug Interactions
The concomitant use with antidepressant type MAOI can cause hypertension crisis.
