Names Of Contraceptive Pill To Prevent Pregnancy

Names of pills that can prevent pregnancy should not be a difficult task. They are in every pharmacy out there in cartoons. They are cheap and affordable. Unfortunately, they are only meant for females.

Hope you are not expecting a long list of contraceptive pills. There are many in the market today. Very effective though. And cheap. It's not cheap for everyone. In addition, the list is for oral contraceptive pills. Most of the pills are not available in Nigeria. This post will stick to those in Nigeria.

It comes in a pack of 30 tablets. 21 tablets are coloured tablet containing estrogen and progestin. The remaining seven tablets are inert.

Combination three is not the only brand available. Others come in more than 21 active tablets. Some can have as high as 84 active tablets and 7 inactive tablets.

A coloured tablet is taken everyday for 21 days. The seven inert tablet is then followed. The contraceptive effect starts after about 10 days of starting the pills. Then the last seven days of using the inert tablet can lead to menstruation.

The major problem is remembering to take it everyday.

It is highly effective when used correctly; permits sexual spontaneity and doesn’t interrupt sex; some pills may even reduce heavy and painful periods and/or may have a positive effect on acne.

Progestin-only Pill

The progestin-only or “mini-pills” contain only norethindrone or drospirenone and each pill is active (there are no placebo, inactive pills). When you finish one pack of progestin-only pills, you start another pack the next day. With progestin-only pills you will either get your period in the fourth week, get no periods, or have spotting during the month. Your periods may be heavier or lighter. Do not stop taking your progestin-only pills.

Postinor

While it is sometimes call the ‘Morning After’ pill, it can actually be effective for up to five days after having unprotected sex. The sooner it is taken, the more effective it is; when taken in the first three days after sex, it prevents about 85% of expected pregnancies.

There are four types of postinor. They are postinor one, postinor two, postinor four and postinor ten. They all contain the same active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). The major difference is the quantity of tablet and the strength. Postinor 1 contains a 1.5 mg levonorgestrel single tablet. Postinor 2 has 2 tablets of 0.75 mg levonorgestrel. Postinor 4 and 10 contain 4 and 10 tablets of 0.75 mg levonorgestrel respectively.

The dosage is 1.5 mg levongrestrel immediately after sex. It can be used for up to five days but the earlier, the better. That means that the dosage of postinor 1 is a single tablet. The dosage of postinor 2 is the two tablets. The dose for postinor 4 and 10 is also 2 tablets.
