The school is small. With about seven facilities, it has less than 3000 student population. Among the faculties is that of pharmacy.
Faculty Of Pharmacy
The first set of pharmacy students were admitted into 100 level in the school session 2010/2011. The admission was through joint admission and university matriculation board (JAMB) Unified tertiary matriculation examination (UTME). It quickly got National University commission (NUC) accreditation and further seek that of the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN). To meet up with PCN requirements the department of pharmaceutics and microbiology was split into two in the year 2016/2017. They were named pharmaceutics and pharmaceutical technology/Pharmaceutical microbiology and biotechnology.
Admission Into Pharmacy
The school accepts various means of admission into the programme. They are UTME, direct Entry and remedial studies.
UTME
GSU is a little bit strict with admission unlike similar state own University in the northern part of the country. They only consider first choice and candidate with UTME score above 160. Application form for post UTME is 2000 naira paid through remita. The payment receipt from remita is converted to GSU receipt at the bursar's office.
Candidates are to come to the school on the screening day for verification of credentials before coming for an aptitude test on a separate day. The required documents for the screening include photocopy of JAMB results slip, two coloured passport size photograph, payment receipt and personal writing material.
One more thing. Candidates interested in GSU pharmacy must possess five credit passes from O level in not more than two sitting. The five subjects include the use of English language, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. UTME subjects are the use of English language, physics, chemistry and biology.
Remedial Studies
Interested candidates who want to do remedial studies in GSU must apply through buying the form using remita. I don't know the cost of the form but it should be about 2000 naira. The programme lasts for 10 months with two semesters. Each semester ends with an examination which is used for grading purposes. Was not able to confirm the school fees for remedial studies. However, no provision for accommodation for remedial candidate.
Direct Entry
Interested candidates can apply to GSU for direct entry into 200 level. Applicants must fulfill UTME requirements. In addition to UTME requirements, make 3 A level passes in chemistry/biology, zoology/physics, mathematics in IJMB. I don't know if they accept JUPEB. Also, a good result from first degree is accepted.
Application form is sold for 2000 naira through remita. Candidates are screened just as in UTME.
School Fees
The first payment is acceptance fee which goes for 25000 naira. For fresh students who are indigenes, their school fees are very cheap. It is 39500 naira. However, the fees go for 31500 from year two.
Non indigenes pay so much. Fresh non indigenes pay 80500 naira. That is about double the fees of indigenes. But when they get to year two, they are expected to pay 72500 naira.
Other fees include a project which is 3000 naira. Portal maintenance is 200 naira which is very cheap. Late registration attracts a penalty of 30000 and I think that is huge.
Accommodation
The school hostel is for both male and females. They have both old and new hostels for both genders. The old hostel goes for 10000 naira while the new hostel goes for a whopping 50000.
As for off campus accommodation, the information about it was not very clear.
