Diets For Diabetes

Diabetes is a situation where the body regulation of blood glucose level is poor. This can happen when the level of insulin (the hormone responsible for the regulation of normal blood sugar level) in the body is low due to small production or non at all. The production happen in the beta cells of the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas. It can also be cause by low sensitivity of body cells and tissues to the presence of insulin produce in the body. This can lead to excess sugar in the body. In other to eliminate this glucose from the body, the body start to experience diuresis, the elimination of water and other waste product from the body through frequent urination. Unfortunately, the glucose being eliminated will be lost with other important nutrients starving the body of such nutrients. This include vitamins and minerals that acts as the body antioxidants and immune booster. Eating more sugar can cause trouble. But still, the body needs glucose. That is why it is good to regulate it by drugs and what they eat.
In other to regulate the level of sugar in the body besides using drugs, one must avoid sugar and sugar containing drugs. Only food should be use as a source of glucose. Many diabetes patients avoid sugar but some fail to realise some drugs contain sugar. Besides sugar some of these drugs contain, they may also contain some minerals and vitamins that may make their condition worst. Let's take a look at this topic proper.

Drugs Diabetes Must Avoid

Sugar
Many diabetes patients walk into the community pharmacy for heamatinic (popularly called blood tonic) when they feel they lack blood. This action is bad. Hematinics contain iron. Iron is a mineral with a very bad metallic and somewhat bitter taste. To make the supplements palatable for consumers, the drug industry adds sugar or other forms of sweeteners to the product. This help to mask the task. Because of the extreme bad task, the quantity of sugar use is always very high. But it is never felt because the iron will mask the taste. For this, diabetes must stay of iron supplements syrups. But capsules are not design to be sweet. Drug industry don't add sweeteners to capsules. But that does not make iron supplements suitable for diabetes patients.
Besides iron supplements, there are many other syrups or even chewable tablets containing sugar. Many cough syrups, have been flavoured and must be avoided or use with strict monitoring of blood sugar level. However, many industries don't disclose all the ingredients in their product to the public because they fear others may copy them. They only disclose it to drug regulatory bodies. So always ask your health care expert for advise.
  • Iron Supplements
When there is a lower amount of heamoglobin in the body, iron supplements can help build back the body in no time. However, normal healthy individuals can manage overdoasge of iron in there body when the level of heamoglobin is above normal. This is not the case with diabetes patients. Overdoasge of iron in diabetes can trigger type two diabetes or make complications worse. According to several research, people with a lot of iron in their body tends to suffer from type two diabetes (diabetes with low sensitivity of cells and tissues to insulin) and make worse their complication. This is cause by too quick oxidation of the iron in the body. Another research explain that the high figure of male diabetes type two patients than women is due to the facts that women lose iron during menstrual bleeding unlike men. But for diabetes who wants to dose on iron supplements, it is advise that they monitor the rate every year.
