The National Agency For Food And Drug Administration And Control (NAFDAC) was founded in 1993. Their function is to checkmate the manufacture, importation, exportation, advertisement, distribution, sale and use of food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, chemicals and packaged water in Nigeria. This was because Nigeria is prone to fake and substandard drugs in Nigeria. The problem of fake drugs in Nigeria led to the death of over 150 children in 1989 as a result of paracetamol syrup containing diethylene glycol.
