Zobo is a popular beverage drink in Nigeria and popularly referred to as ‘Zoborodo’ in the Northern part of Nigeria. Made from Roselle leaves (Hibiscus), the delicious drink is not only refreshing but without any additional ingredients, highly nutritious and as such there are many health benefits.

It is consumed immediately or refrigerated. Poor storage can lead to spoilage. The resulting liquid tasted horrible and bad. Zobo drink can be fermented into red wine using probiotic organism Lactobacillus fermentum and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Both organisms produced wines of different physicochemical properties within 24hours fermentation. There is gradual alcohol increase during the fermentation process.
Is Zobo Good For Children
Yes, when served in solid food. Zobo flowers, if served as part of a solid food meal (or sauce), may be introduced as soon as the baby is ready to start solids, which is usually around 6 months of age.
The calyx of the hibiscus plant, the edible outermost part of the flower, contains fiber for digestion and a healthy microbiome, as well as calcium, important for the growth of strong bones. Hibiscus flowers also offer a combination of iron and vitamin C—two nutrients that work together to combat anemia and promote the growth of healthy tissue. Because of their antioxidant and anthocyanin content, hibiscus may also boast anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, and anti-diabetic properties.

Can Babies Drink Zobo Drink
Avoid serving zobo drinks to babies younger than 12 months of age, as they could displace valuable nutrition from breast/human milk or formula. Reserve candied zobo flowers and sweetened zobo drinks for older children.
