Composition Of Penicillin Ophthalmic

1g of Ophthalmic Ointment contains:

Benzylpenicillin potassium 5,000 I.U

Action

Penicillin Ophthalmic is effective against all microorganisms susceptible to Penicillin. Maximal concentration of Penicillin at the site of infections is reached by topical application, which could not be achieved by general treatment (oral or parenteral). The process of healing is accelerated by relatively small amounts of Penicillin.

Therapeutic Indications Of Penicillin Ophthalmic

Local treatment of acute topical infections of the eye: Conjunctivitis, gonorrheal conjunctivitis, blepharitis, keratitis, dacryocystitis, injury of conjunctiva, hordeolum and in prophylaxis prior to surgery on the eye.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to Penicillin.

Dosage And Administration Of Penicillin Ophthalmic

Apply a sparring amount of the ointment to the inverted low eyelid every 6-8 hour.
