Can Dettol Antiseptic Solution, Cream Or Soap Kill Scabies

Scabies is a skin infections. Because of that, many people turn to the use of dettol in the treatment of scabies. They add it to their bath water or even massage it into their skin with the hope of killing the mite and it's eggs.

The active ingredient in Dettol that confers its antiseptic property is chloroxylenol (C8H9ClO), an aromatic chemical compound. Chloroxylenol comprises 4.8% of Dettol’s total admixture, with the rest made up of pine oil, isopropanol, castor oil, soap and water.”

An example is Permethrin cream. Another is benzyl benzoate lotion, calamine lotion and Crotamiton (Eurax). Ivermectin (Stromectol) is the only oral drug recommended for scabies.

For example, Tetmosol soap is a local treatment for scabies in Nigeria. Tetmosol contains benzyl benzoate which is a very effective scabicide. But a word of caution is that it should not be used too frequently.
