The university of Calabar (UNICAL) is situated in Calabar, cross River state, Nigeria. It was a campus of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) until 1975. It's students are nicknamed malabites.

University Of Calabar (UNICAL) Pharmacy

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) recently introduced a pharmacy programme. It is over four years since it enrolled its first students. Unfortunately, it is not yet approved by the pharmacist council of Nigeria (PCN).

Mode Of Entry

There are three modes of entry into pharmacy in the university of Calabar. They are pre-degree, direct entry (DE) and joint admission and matriculation board (JAMB) unitary tertiary matriculation examination (UTME).

Pre-degree

University of Calabar also runs a pre-degree programme for all those who wish to enter into a degree programme. Those that pass will be admitted into the degree programme at year one. The programme runs for an academic session of two semesters with examination.

Requirements are five O'level credit passes in English language, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology in not more than two sittings. Awaiting result can also apply provided that the O'level result must be out before commencement of registration for admission. Also, candidates must write that year's JAMB UTME. Interested candidates can buy the application form online for ₦10000 only. They admit almost all applicants.

After getting admitted into the pre-degree programme, the next thing is to lay for acceptance fee which is ₦25000. The. The school fees which is ₦55900 is paid. Successful candidates will be shortlisted.

JAMB UTME

This is by far the most popular mode of entry into pharmacy in University of Calabar, UNICAL. Candidates should choose UNICAL as their first choice of institutions although they accept second choice. Also, the O'level result must include credit pass in English language, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology in not more than two sittings. UNICAL accepts 180 JAMB UTME scores for eligibility to participate in their post-UTME.

To write UNICAL post-UTME, candidates must purchase the form online for ₦2000 only. The post-UTME is a computer based test. It consists of 40 questions from four subject areas like JAMB UTME spread across 30 minutes. Shortlisted candidates can begin registration for admission.

Direct Entry (DE)

UNICAL accept DE. With an O'level result consisting of five credit passes in English language, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology in not more than two sittings and a good A Level or tertiary education result in science with upper credit, candidates can apply for DE in UNICAL. UNICAL conducts screening exercises for DE candidates and must register with JAMB DE choosing UNICAL as a university of choice.

UNICAL also runs a joint university preliminary examination board (JUPEB) programme. The JUPEB programme runs for an academic session of two semesters with examination. The form is ₦15000 and the school fees is ₦155000 paid into UNICAL account and ₦45000 paid into JUPEB account. This gives a grand total of ₦200000 only.

UNICAL Pharmacy School Fees

Admitted students are to pay an acceptance fee if ₦25000 only before commencement of registration. The school fees for fresh students is ₦42750 per session and ₦39000 for returning students. Final year students pay a flat rate of ₦42250 only. Other charges are ₦3000 for project, ₦2500 for portal charge, ₦2000 for academic (matriculation) gown and ₦3000 for late registration.

Campus Hostel

There are different hostels in the University of Calabar campus. They are hall 2, 4, 5 (Annex), 6, 7 (Moore), 8 and 9. Windsworth hostel is the only private hostel in the school. UNICAL hostel accommodation is ₦16500 but has not been stable due to outcry from students on the recent price increment.

Application is done only. Application is possible after paying school fees. You have the liberty to choose your accommodation.
