Travel Safety Tips
The following travel safety tips is good for PCM who travel from their place of residence to orientation camp. You may not need all the information if someone close to you will drop you off. 1. Research: before you embark on the journey, go through your checklist again. Make sure you read and unread the information on your call-up letter to be sure where you are posted to. Review your destination again and read about their lives and culture. There is a new information from NYSC to all deployed PCMs about the state they are posted to. There is 'deployed state guide' link on their dashboard where they can get a glimpse of their state before going. The information is also sent to their email address.
2. Organization: stay organized. Arrange all your documents a night before that day you will travel. Also make adequate provision for your needed items in camp. Ask people what and what you will be needing in camp so that you don't become stranded there. Reduce your loads to the barest minimum. Check the address of your camp. Ask others the best and safest route to get there.
3. Transportation: be prepared. Get enough physical cash that will take you to the destination. Have in mind of having extra cash in case of eventuality. Accident on the way can add extra cost to the planned cost. More than enough is better than not enough. Move on time to get there on time. Avoid late night journey. Use registered vehicles and good ones. Avoid using road sides vehicles to cost cost. They are risky.
4. Behave: the journey may be long or short. It may be to a place you have been familiar with or not. You may pass different tribes and languages on your way. Each of these places have different characters. They respond to things differently. So be careful. Be vigilant. Avoid discussing politics, religion, sports, etc on the way even with your friends on the way no to talk of a total stranger. This can get others offended and can lead to unplanned unrest.
Camp Safety Tips

1. Obey: obey all NYSC orientation camp laws. There are soldiers there to enforce them. Failure to heed to the laid down laws will invoke their wrath. There are so many rules you will learn. Learn them fast.
2. Personal Effects: at orientation camp, you are on your own. You are safe from arm robbery attacks but not from pickpocket. If you are not careful, you may loss so many of your valuable. Get a waste bag where you will keep all your documents and personal gadgets like mobile phone(s). The bag should always be on your waist at all time even when sleeping. There are some that can be locked. Also, add a mark to all your personal belongings. Have a small bag that you can lock. That is where you can keep your properties that are difficult to mark.
3. Wears: there are standard programme for all PCM throughout the country. These are simple and easy. But there are some unique activities that is kind some camps. Always read and ask the risk involved in any activity. Follow safety advise. They are many. For example, never apply body lotion to your skin especially your hands during mountaineering. This can be dangerous. Also, never drink any liquid immediately after completing a stressful activity which makes you to be panting. It can kill.

4. Contact: it is good to keep in touch with family and friends. This way, they know about your safety. A very way of doing it in this modern age and time is the use of mobile phone. Get a phone a a long battery life. Not all network are available in certain places. That is why you should come along with different SIM cards. If one is failing, the other will work. This advise may not hold water during travel periods
