Does Zobo Drink Increase Blood

Because of the red colour of zobo drink, many drinkers believe that it increases blood in the body. They may not be far from the truth. However, we need scientific backing.

Zobo is a popular beverage drink in Nigeria and popularly referred to as ‘Zoborodo’ in the Northern part of Nigeria.

Does Zobo Increase Blood

There is no clinical trial to this effect. However, there have been studies as to the nutritional value of this drink.

From research, zobo drinks contain lots of vitamins and minerals. It was observed that dark red zobo drink has the highest percentage of Vitamin C (7.5 mg g-1), calcium (4 ppm) and ash (15.5%) content. The bright red recorded a high value in only magnesium (13.25 ppm) and the wine however, recorded the highest value in sodium (50.67 ppm), potassium (235 ppm), iron (1.17 ppm).

They also contain other vitamins and minerals. However, they are low. But the iron content of all varieties of zobo drink is so small that it cannot be claimed to increase blood in the body. And the lack of adequate amounts of folic acid, and vitamin B complex makes it not viable for boosting blood levels.

Some research actually claim that zobo drink increase iron absorption. This can be use to increase blood in the body. However, there must be some source of iron. That means that taking zobo with blood tonic is good in increasing blood.
