Metronidazole gel should not be used at night if it coincides with any schedule other than sleep. For example, a woman going to night shift should not use metronidazole gel at night. This will disrupt the absorption process as her activity will delay absorption.

Metronidazole gel can be used anytime of the day when the woman is most likely to sleep or lie on the bed for a long period of time. In some journals, at least an hour. Some put it at 3 hours.

Pharmacists will usually advise women using metronidazole to choose an appropriate time of the day that is regular. Women coming back from night shift in the morning can use it that morning. This timing should be for at least the five days during use of the drug. It must not be at night.
