Mycoten Composition, Side Effect, Use, Dose

Mycoten is a product containing clotrimazole. It is made by drugfield pharmaceuticals limited, Lagos, Nigeria. Clotrimazole is a synthetic fungicidal broad-spectrum antifungal agent, chemically identified as Bisphenyl- (2-chlorophenyl)-1 imidazole methane.

It is available as Clotrimazole 1% dermal Cream in 20g tube, 35g tube vaginal cream, and 100mg Clotrimazole base tablet in a foil pack of 6 tablets.

Indications And Use Of Mycoten

Mycoten cream is effective in the treatment of fungal skin infections due to dermatophytes, e.g. Trichophyton species, yeasts e.g. Candida species, moulds and other fungi such-as Tinea capitis, corporis, manuum, barbae, cruris, pedis (athlete's foot), Pityriasis versicolor, erythrasma. Mycoten vaginal cream or tablets is indicated for the local treatment of patients with vaginal yeast infections such as Candida albicans, other Candida species and vaginal infections caused by Trichomonas vaginalis.

Contra-indications

Mycoten Cream or Tablet is contraindicated in individuals who have shown hypersensitivity to Clotrimazole or any of the components of the Cream or Tablet.

Precaution

If local irritation or allergic reaction should occur, the treatment should be discontinued. Mycoten Vaginal Cream and Tablet is effective in the treatment of vaginal Candidiasis associated with pregnancy, but should be prescribed with caution during the first trimester.

The vaginal tablet is preferred during pregnancy since it can be inserted without an applicator.

Dosage And Administration Of Mycoten

Mycoten cream is thinly applied to the affected parts and rubbed in two or three times daily. Duration of the treatment could be up to 2-4 weeks depending on the extent and the site of the disease.

Mycoten vaginal tablet (100mg) should be inserted deep in the vagina once daily, using the applicator supplied, and preferably at bed time. Mycoten Tablet is effective when applied for 3 or 6 or 14 days.

Mycoten vaginal cream one completely filled applicator should be inserted deep into the vagina and preferably at night for six consecutive days. In cases of candida infection of both sexual partners, they should at the same time be treated with mycoten cream.
