P-alaxin TS And P-alaxin TN Meaning

P-alaxin is an Artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTS). It contains Dihydroartemisinin and piperaquine. It is used in the treatment of uncomplicated malaria.

The Artemisinin derivative is extracted from Artemisia Annua, a traditional Chinese medicinal plant and an antimalarial drug, piperaquine.

P Alaxin is a product of Bliss GVS Pharma Ltd and marketed by Greenlife Pharmaceutical. It has proved effective in the treatment of uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria. It has been evaluated in clinical trials in adults, children and infants of 6 months and over.

Meaning Of P-alaxin TS And P-alaxin TN

P-alaxin comes in tablets and syrup form. The syrup contains in 5ml, dihydroartemisinin 40mg/piperaquine 320mg. The tablet comes in different variants. P-alaxin tablet sachet contains either 8 or 9 tablets. The 8 tablet version is no longer in the market. Each tablet contains Dihydroartemisinin 40 mg and Piperaquine Phosphate 320 mg.

P-alaxin TS

P-alaxin TN sachet contains 12 tablets with each tablet having the same composition as p-alaxin. However, Greenlife decided to remove that label and change the pack to blue to differentiate between p-alaxin with 12 tablets from p-alaxin with 8 or 9 tablets which has a green or blue pack. It is labeled p-alaxin now.

The major difference is in p-alaxin TS which contains 3 tablets. Each of the tablets contains dihydroartemisinin 120 mg/piperaquine 960 mg.

The letter TS in p-alaxin TS means 'triple strength.' It means that three tablets of p-alaxin by 9 tablet were combined to form one tablet. As for p-alaxin TN, it contains 12 tablets which is the complete dose for people with weight between 60-80kg. I could not find out the meaning of TN in p-alaxin TN.
