Through the CDS, members of the Service Corps work with the local communities to promote self-reliance by systematically prospecting and executing development projects and programme which impact positively on the socio-economic development of the host communities. CDS allows Corps members to contribute positively in the development of their host communities.

To participate in a private CDS, it must be approved by the state coordinator. Approval is subject to application from the corp member. Previously, we have discussed how to write a CDS project proposal with samples. It is time to wait for notification from NYSC through the state coordinator.

The states coordinator vet all proposals. Proposals that meet NYSC CDS criteria are approved and the corp member given full support. Those that failed to meet the condition are rejected. Corp members can apply again following the due process. Proposals from corp members that the completion of the project exceed the months left for them to serve may be cancelled.

An acceptance letter is carried in NYSC letter head paper. At the centre is NYSC logo imprinted. State coordinator sign it and sent it to local inspector to give to the fortunate corp member.

When a NYSC CDS project proposal is approved, an approval letter is sent to the corp member through the local inspector. The corp member is expected to give report every 2 months as the project is going. Rejected application also comes in the same vein but with different information.
