Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu university (COOU) is a state tertiary institution located in ULI, a town in Anambra state, Nigeria. It was founded in 2000 with the name Anambra State University (ANSU). It once changed its name from Anambra state university of science and technology in 2004. Current name was coin after the death of chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. It started with two campuses but presently has three.

Pharmacy In COOU

The faculty of pharmacy is located in the igbariam campus. The faculty of pharmacy in COOU is very new. It has not yet been given accreditation by the pharmacist council of Nigeria, PCN. However, given the fact that most of the other programmes in COOU got accreditation pretty fast, one should expect same pace with pharmacy programme. It currently has three sets of students with the pandemic slowing down the academic calendar. COOU accepts three modes of admission into the programme. They are joint admission and matriculation board (JAMB) Unified tertiary matriculation examination (UTME), direct entry (DE) and pre-degree.

Post UTME

The requirements to be eligible for a COOU post UTME is five credit passes in O'level at not more than two sitting. The subjects are English language, physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. JAMB UTME combination includes the use of English language, physics, chemistry and biology.

The cut off mark is 170 and above. Application form for the post UTME is ₦2000 but the total fee is ₦5000. They accept first choice. Candidates who wish to apply for post UTME in COOU should change their choice to first choice to be considered before application.

The mode of questions is the use of computer based tests (CBT). They ask 50 multiple choice questions (MCQ) under 30 minutes. The total score is 100 percent. Their questions vary of course from the four combinations in JAMB UTME and current affairs.

Direct Entry (DE)

COOU accepts direct entry from qualified candidates. Interested candidates must possess five credit passes in O'level in English language, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. And they must have a good result from a relevant degree. They run a joint university preliminary examination board (JUPEB) examination.

JUPEB In COOU

The programme is a one year programme with two semesters. Eligibility is five credit passes in O'level result in not more than two sitting. Applicants have to pay ₦15000 for the form. Information about their school fees is not available to me now but will update it when I do. However, applicants must apply for a JAMB direct entry and a COOU DE form for ₦5000.

Students who have been given admission must pay an acceptance fee of ₦26315 only excluding bank charges. Year one pharmacy student pays ₦201815. Then year two part with a reduced fee of ₦201315. Hostel Accommodation

The school offers accommodation to students from different faculties at different rates. They have both male and female students. Unfortunately the bed space is not enough for the number of students that want school accomodation. The hostel fee for science students is ₦30960 only for a year. I will encourage students to go to the school hostel because of the bad road leading to the school.
