Can A Dead Person Come Back To Life After Being Embalmed

In the holy books, some dead men came back to life. Somewhere gone for days, even embalmed and buried. They came back living a good life. An example is Jesus Christ and Lazarus. Most people believe those stories because it happens through some spiritual means.

The question that most people ask is if it is possible for a dead man to come back to life today. Remember the statement that dead men tell no tales? This can be it. The question needs more attention especially if the person has been embalmed.

There are numerous stories of dead men waking up in the morgue or even in their burial. The longest interval I saw on the internet was a man who woke up after he was declared dead 24 hours later. Is it really possible? Before we answer, let us take a look at what happens at death.

Medical definitions of death have changed over time. This is because of science experiencing movement of those declared dead after some hours. Initially, death is thought of as a situation whereby the pulse stops working and the heart stops beating. However, recent definition put it as irreversible cessation of brain stem-cell function. This looks more like it as it puts into account the working of the heart. If the stem cell dies, the heart cannot pump blood. And it can be measured using heart and oxygen monitors. But with all this information, there are many cases of dead men coming back to life.

Most of the people who came back to life after certification of their death do so within a few minutes to hours. The question that may come up is what about those who wake up in the morgue or at their own burial? Did they survive the embalming process? To answer that, let's take a look at the embalming process.

What Is Embalming

There are two main ways of preserving dead bodies. The two method target is to preserve and restore the body. They are freezer and embalming fluid. The freezer method, the temperature is brought down. This prevents bacteria from surviving. The temperature is so low that it is difficult for humans to survive the cold inside. However, there was a story of a woman waking up 11 hours after she was declared dead and put inside the freezer. Miracle you will say.

The second method uses chemical fluids to restore and preserve the body. The fluid is made up of formaldehyde or glutaraldehyde, methanol, ethanol, phenol, water, colour and other additives such as disinfectant.

The fluid is injected into the arterial systems through the right carotid artery. The injection pushes out the blood from the artery through the veins to a sewage treatment plant. The embalming fluid does not get to the abdomen and heart region. To get there, a second injection is done using a trocar. This covers the rest of the body. So there is embalming fluid in the circulatory system. The blood is gone.

There is no story of anybody surviving this process. This is because the chemicals are highly toxic. A lady in Russia was injected with about 40 percent formalin, the liquid form of formaldehyde gas which is more concentrated than the one used in embalming. She died 14 hours later after the incident. Commentators are of the opinion that it is not possible for her to survive that long with such a dose except the story is not complete.

Stories of dead men coming back to life are very possible. They happen when they have not been embalmed just like the Kenya man who woke up when they wanted to embalm him. The pain of the incision on his shoulder woke him up. And like all others that wake up, he died after some days. They hardly live longer than a week. Some just for a few minutes.

The stories of dead men waking up at their funeral is very true if and only if the burial was within that same day. This is because after 24 hours, the body begins to decay from inside. If the body survives the first 24 hours without embalming, the person is not dead. Maybe unconscious. It is possible for it to happen because there are medical conditions whereby the body temperature drops or the body swells.

The story of a man in Nigeria that died and woke up after six days fail to meet many criteria. You can read the story here. He was embalm at home by a nurse. The story did not say if the nurse is a medical nurse or native nurse. And to confirm the embalming process was wrong, he said he clean up the formalin from his body. Embalming fluid are usually pumped into the circulatory system and not on the skin. That makes it controversial.
