University Of Ilorin (Unilorin) Pharmacy Programme Description

Unilorin

University of Ilorin is also known as unilorin and is located in Kwara state, Nigeria. It is a federal government university that was founded in 1975. It has one of the largest land masses by any federal government university in Nigeria covering a staggering 50000 hectare of land.

The university started off as a university college affiliated to the university of Ibadan. It became a federal university in 1975 when a portion of land belonging to the kwara state college of technology was ceded to the university. The university was moved to it's permanent site in 1982.

The university boasts more than 50000 students from 15 faculties. It is one of the best universities in Nigeria and has won the title for four consecutive years over the past decade. Yet it is not part of the academic staff union of universities (ASUU).

Faculty Of Pharmaceutical Science

The faculty is new. It was established in 2010. On the 4th of May, 2017, they inducted their 17 pioneer students.

To provide a sound clinical basis for the application of pharmaceutical science knowledge in the appropriate use of drugs in patients.

To train pharmacists in clinical pharmacy and pharmacy practice to be professional in their approach and imbibe a culture of research and community service.

To prepare pharmacists to achieve excellence in pharmaceutical care.

Admission Requirements

University of Ilorin accepts Direct Entry (DE) and joint admission and matriculation board (JAMB) unified tertiary matriculation examination (UTME). They have a pre degree programme also called remedial studies but do not accept pharmacy.

UTME

Unilorin accepts five O'Level credit passes in English language, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology in not more than two sitting. UTME subject combination includes use of English language, physics, chemistry and biology. Candidate must fill Unilorin as first choice and score above 200 in JAMB UTME to be eligible for the post UTME. Some department have lower cut off mark.

Post UTME

Unilorin post UTME is open to only candidates who choose the school as first choice of institution score above 200 in UTME. Eligible candidates are to buy the Unilorin post UTME form for 2000 naira only. The form is process online including filling in relevant details like bio-data and passport size photograph.

There are two aspects to PUTME Screening

i. PUTME Screening Aptitute Test of which the result will be released immediately after the test.

ii. PUTME Score which is composition of O' Level/A' Level and PUTME Screening results will be released after closure of result upload for both O' Level/A' Level.

There is accommodation available for interested candidates. A night in the school hostel is about 1000 to 3000 naira only.

Direct Entry

Unilorin accepts A level passes in physics, chemistry and biology. Also, BSC in relevant fields such as anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, physiology, zoology (animal and environmental science), chemistry and other basic science.

IJMB

Unilorin accepts the IJMB result. However, they do not have the programme. They accept 5-9 points for any paramedical course.

JUPEB

Unilorin runs the JUPEB programme. The programme structure is the same as in other universities. Application form is 25000 naira only. Not very sure if there is an entrance examination. Admitted students are expected to pay an acceptance fee of 20000 naira. Screening of candidates is done at the mini campus. Their school fees are 200000 naira. Other fees include school charge of 5000 naira, library charge of 5000 naira, laboratory and practical manuals of 10000 naira. In all, the bank charges 250 naira as commission while caution few is 5000 naira but administrative charge is 6000 naira. There is no provision for accommodation.

Undergraduate

The number of graduate yearly is usually at the range of 20 students. This means that they don't admit much. Maybe to the tune of 40 students per year. Their post UTME cut off mark for last year was 250.

Admitted students are to commence screening after paying acceptance fee which is 25000 naira only. Fresh students into any level pay 27000 naira only in that year. However, returning students pay 15700 naira yearly.

Hostel Accommodation

The university provides accommodation for students who are interested. But they give preference to year one and final year students of the university. Year one students can only apply after completing their screening. All applications are done online. The yearly rent is 28000 naira only.

The hostel accommodation is operated like a village system with rooms of 2, 4, 6 and 8. The main general hostel is village I which is the only male hostel. The others are village II (Lagos), village IIIa (Abuja), village IIIb (kwara), village IV (zamfara) and village V (Trunil). The rooms are filled with bookshelves and wardrobe. Orthopedic mattress and pillows are also available.

Unilorin Multipurpose Cooperative Society Hostel

This is a private hostel with a well furnished room close to the trunil hostel. It is equipped with a reading table, chairs, bookshelves, and reading lamp. Each room is self-contained with a toilet, kitchen and bathroom. By the side is a mini Mart to Carter for shopping needs if occupants. With two occupants per room, the room goes for 95000 naira for a year rent with 5000 as caution fee.

Unilorin Pacesetters Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society Hostel

And here comes another private university with a well furnished room close to the trunil hostel. It boasts a common room, reading lamp, reading table, wardrobe, kitchen, toilet and bathroom for two occupants. The price is 90000 naira for a year.

Off Campus

The hostel off camp offers various categories of accommodation to choose from. The pricey ones are close to the campus. Self-contain goes from 50000 naira up to 150000 naira as a yearly fee. However, single rooms offer less and affordable process below 50000 naira for a year.
